How long should you steam sweet potatoes?!

Question:

How long should you steam sweet potatoes?

I have just bought a steamer, but it does not say how long to steam my favourite vegetable - sweet potatoes. Previously I have cooked them in a microwave until soft enough to mash.
Any other tips on using a steamer?

Answers:
a steamer is okay for sweet potatoes but the grill is awsome. grill till toasty & tender & then serve with a little butter. a steamer works great for asparagus however

Steam until fork tender.

As a starting point,
For whole sweet potatoes, I suggest 20 minutes minimum and checking every 10 minutes unitl fork tender.

For cut up sweet potatoes, I would think it would be done in 10 to 20 minutes depending on the cut size.

Just make sure the steamer doesn't run out of water.

They cook really quickly , 10 Min's would be about right , but test to make sure.Only tips i could give would be trial and error, but the steamer is really easy to use

Just steam them until they are soft.... It will vary depending on how you chop them and how packed the steamer is.. It usually takes about 15-20 min.

Remember that it is a potate type. the steamer should have info on cooking other potatoes. If not it will take longer to cook with the skin on. If you remove the skin they will cook faster. The amount of potatoes that you put in the steamer will effect the length of time . A fixed amount of heat(steam) will only cook so much potatoes oer min. Without knowing the output of you steamer ,Who knows for sure thetime.

I would boil them, and steam my vegetables over them Probably for about 20 minutes, depending on how big the pieces are.

I would say around 10-15 minutes. Don't 'quote' me on that though.

Not best way to steam them.Best way is to wash, rub a little olive oil into the skin and bake in oven 40 mins or so depending on size.Slice them open and liberally throw some cornish butter and b/pepper inside.DEEEVine
