KFC has the best coleslaw but it's 180 calories per serving (plus you have to count their most delicious high calorie chicken too...) so I have it only when I'm really craving it...
Otherwise, I do a good homemade pepper slaw (only 54 calories per serving):
2 cups shredded green cabbage
1 small red bell pepper, cored, seeded, and thinly sliced
1 small green green, cored, seeded, and thinly sliced
1 small onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1. In large bowl toss cabbage, peppers, and onion.
2. In small bowl stir together oil, vinegar, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Add dressing to slaw and toss until vegetables are well coated. Cover and refrigerate until serving time.
Yield: 6 servings; 6 cups. 54 calories.
kfc has good coleslaw
The very best is the recipe for KFC coleslaw which you can find on topsecretrecipes.com. It is awesome. I just by shredded coleslaw veggies in a bag and mix with the homemade dressing.

i just use mayonaise or salad dressing with a pinch of sugar and the vinegar / juice out of a jar of sweet pickles... all to taste and the constistency you like
CREAMY COLESLAW DRESSING
1/2 plain yogurt
2 tablespoon dijon mustard
1 tablespoon fat-free mayonnaise
2 teaspoons sugar
salt and pepper to taste
Mix all ingredients. To serve pour over coleslaw and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
This may not be what you want, but it is my favorite. I like the cabbage chopped very fine and I use Kraft's Cole Dressing. It is very good. I love it.
My mother makes the world's best cole slaw. (I'm unbiased, since I can honestly say I don't like most of her cooking, preferring my own.) I have watched her prepare it and I still can't get it to taste like hers.
She uses mayonnaise, dill relish, and a very small amount of white vinegar. She does it by sight and I can't get the proportions down, so I can't tell you how much of what.
Good luck!
Hey...try some rice vinegar, a little sweet pickle juice, a bit of lemon or lime, lots of garlic powder, some brown sugar to taste, fresh black pepper and seasoning salt, miracle whip, and some sour cream, and some Tabasco. Enjoy!
They actually have a dressing called coleslaw dressing with your outher salad dressings in the grocery store.
I use about a cup of mayo(best foods, if you please), about a half cup of sugar, and a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar (heinz) Then about a tablespoon of sesame oil, and a good pinch of celery seed or celery salt. It's really just a basic coleslaw dressing, but I like it sweet and vinegary. Add this to about a whole head of green cabbage, and about a half of a small head of red cabbage, cut fine. I sometimes add raisins or craisins, and a shredded carrot.
1 part oil to 2 parts vinegar, sugar to taste, chopped fresh parsley for color. salt and white pepper.
1 Cup Mayonaise
1/4 cup of white wine vinegar
1 tbsp of curry powder
2 tbsp of sugar
1 tbsp cayanne pepper
sprinkle of salt and pepper
Adjust quantities of any ingredient to suit your taste.
Add rasins or dried cranberries....you won't regret it.
Coleslaw
8 cups cabbage
1/3 cup carrot
1 teaspoon onion chopped fine
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/8 cup milk
3/4 cup buttermilk (or little vinegar and milk)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup mayonnaise
chop up a small head of cabbage in a food processor
throw in a bell pepper
throw in 2 carrots
throw in 2 pieces of celery
throw in a small white onion
dump this processed veggies into a nice stainless bowl
add a big old spoonful of mayo
then a big old spoonful sweet pickle relish
add salt and pepper and some of that juice in the relish jar
combine this real well and taste it for seasoning
Fresh processed veggies make the whole dang house smell so good
and it tastes real good too
put it in the fridge and chill it.
make some fried catfish and tater tots to go with it!!I am now going to have to take the backbone out of some fresh caught trout for mom...back in a bit..to answer more
this is yummy.. if you think it might be too sweet you could reduce the amount of sugar in the recipe..
1 - 16 ounce package coleslaw mix
1 tablespoon minced onion ( I don't like to use a lot of onion, so you might want to not use as much)
1/3 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 - 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 - 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
Combine the onion and coleslaw in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients and mix until smooth. Pour over the coleslaw and onion mixture, stir well and chill for at least 1 hour but it is better if you chill it for a few hours.
I work in a cafeteria with a rather large salad bar. We make a coleslaw using shredded cabbage, diced scallions and we use Hartville Sweet and Sour dressing. The people who work there love it. Quick and easy. Takes the guess work out of trying to come up with the right ingredients. Same every time.
