What are the little bugs crawling in my basil?!

Question:

What are the little bugs crawling in my basil?

I was about to use my basil today, but noticed some little bugs crawling inside the spice jar. What are these bugs? Has anyone ever had this happen. I can only assume they have been there since I bought it and I have been cooking with these bugs for weeks. Just thinking of this makes me feel sick. I am sure the jar was properly sealed every single time it was opened and was not open any longer than needed to get some basil out to cook with.

Answers:
Could be weavels. They live in dry foods. They are not poisonous but a bit disgusting-no one wants to see their food wriggling around. They normally originate in flour but once you got 'em they quickly spread to all dry foods. You will probably need to clear your cupboards out and chuck out all of your dry stock to get rid of them.

WEEVILS.....

It could be that a bug laid it's eggs on basil and they hatched.I always use fresh basil.I grow it outside in summer than bring plant in for winter and take fresh cuttings of it when i need it.Love the stuff!

Sorry to hear you were grossed out.Use fresh instead...well washed of course?

I would just throw it out guy. Check your other spices while you are at it.

sorry to say you got weavels and they are very hard to get rid of. good luck
