Pecan pie is a sweet custard pie made primarily of pecans, which are nuts and corn syrup. It is popularly served at holiday meals, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and proves its popularity during all holidays. It stays fresh for a week or more and is considered a speciality of Southern U.S. cuisine. Most pecan pie recipes include salt and vanilla as flavourings. Other ingredients such as chocolate and bourbon whiskey are popular additions to the recipe. Pecan pie is often served with whipped cream. It is one of the home-cooked comfort foods, rather fattening too.

It is made in 3 steps,
1. Roasting the pecan nuts.
2. Baking the pie crust or alternatively using ready made flaky pastry to save time, and
3. Making the pecan pie filling with brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla and salt.
