How do you cook popcorn on the stovetop?!

Question:

How do you cook popcorn on the stovetop?

Answers:
not very well don't eat my popcorn! lots of butter and salt , it take a couple of trys to get it right, do not use to much popcorn. any oil works good ! light oil in the bottom of the pan. keep the popcorn kernals moving in the pan .

i dont no

put a small amount in a pan with a lid and heat gently (Be careful)

With immense difficulty. Buy Jiffypop or put in saucepan with some oil and wait until you hear the pops. Then watch it carefully so it doesn't burn.

just have a pot with a metal lid and pour the popcorn kernels(this is when you put in the butter/salt ect..) in and turn on the fire.

heat a bit of oil on your pot and when you see the oil smokes a bit..put in ur corn and wait a bit till they pop itself but you have to shake the pot in order not to burn your popcorn. Dont stir but shake it.

pan with lid, some oil in the bottom, popcorn, put lid on hold over the burner on the stove and shake backa dn forth so it does not stick and it will pop.

you get a deep pot put it on the stove to heat up, pour about a 1/3 of a cup of vegetable oil let it heat, then pour your popcorn kernels in to cover the bottom of the pot(1 1/2 cup) cover with lid, when the kernels start popping shake the pot around until the kernels come to a slow popping, remove from heat and pour into a bowl, add melt butter and salt. be careful as to not burn the popcorn. watch it carefully. good eating sweetie

lol. Isn't it funny how used to microwave popcorn we are? You put oil in the bottom of a big pan (that you have a tight lid for) I usually enough to cover the edges but not the entire bottom. Cover the bottom of the pan with one layre of popcorn. On med-high heat, let it pop and shake every once in a while. You are done when the popcorn reaches the top of the lid or stops popping, whichever happens first! Don't burn the popcorn on the bottom, you might want to remove it from the heat a little towards the end.

Good luck!

Use a large pot that heats evenly, if possible, such as stainless steel. Put in about 1/3 C oil and a few popcorn kernels. Heat on med-high heat until the kernels start to pop. Then add about 1 c popcorn (if you are using a large pot, 1/2 c for a large saucepan). Put the lid on and wait a few minutes. Shake the pot gently from time to time as the popcorn starts to pop. It's a good idea to lift the pot off the heat and shake to let the unpopped kernels drop to the bottom where it is hottest.

When you can count 4 seconds between pops, most of the popcorn will be done. Pour it out into a bowl and salt it, then serve. It's easier than most people realize!

Take a large pot and add 1/4 cup of vegetable oil. Heat the oil. add ONE unpopped kernel, when that kernel pops, add One to one 1/2 cups of unpopped kernels. Make sure to put on a lid. While popping slightly shake the pan. When popping has slowed significantly, take off heat and put into large bowl. Add melted butter and salt.

This is the ONLY way to make popcorn, you will never eat microwaved again!

Enough veggie oil to coat the whole bottom of a sauce pan (or pot), then put in a half-cup or a cup of popcorn (depending on size of pot). Heat over medium heat, continually shaking the pot back and forth (horizontally across the heat). Constant motion is critical.

Enjoy!

[added] Actually, Valerie and some others have it just right. I forgot about the test kernel!

Place a about a 1/2 tsp. of oil in a pot add about a 1/2 cup of popcorn, cover with lid, slide pot back and forth over medium flame/heat source, soon the kernels will begin to pop, keep sliding pot until popping subsides, immediately remove from heat.

From the other posts, I think you have an idea of how to do it. but here are a couple of pointers. Oil goes in the pan and the kernels go in with it. You want the oil to heat up with the corn.
As for the amount of corn, Remember, A little goes a long way.
Shake pot with lid on it every once in a while before the corn starts to pop. When the corn starts popping, don't stop shaking until the corn stops popping, then remove from heat quickly and uncover.
Good Luck.

put in enough oil to cover a layer of kernels. put the heat on medium-high--between numbers 7&8 on my stove (if the dial was a clock it would be set to 2 0-clock.) put a kernel in & when it pops, the oil is hot enough. pour in your popcorn, put the lid on & vent it--I place a fork upside down on the handle of the pot & have the tines holding the lid up. when it starts popping, hold down the lid & start shaking it to shake the unpopped kernels back down to the bottom. when the popping stops, pour it into a bowl. let the pot cool down a bit & melt some butter or margarine--if you don't let the pot cool your butter will burn & be a crappy brown color.

get a medium kettle. add the oil and the popcorn. put a lid on it. and when the popcorn begins to pop shake it with a very rapid movement to keep it from scorching continue til most of it is popped. there will always be some that is not popped. pour into a large bowl and add salt and melted butter. and stir until salt and butter are evenly distributed among the popcorn. and enjoy........

You will need to buy a bag or jar of popcorn at the store.

Use a 3 qt sauce pan with a lid.

Put the pan on the stove and adjust the heat somewhere between medium and high heat .

Pour enough vegetable oil (or peanut oil, etc.) into the pan to generously cover the bottom of the pan.

Heat the oil for a minute or two. Then, drop 3-4 kernals of popcorn into the pan. When one or two of them pop, you will add enough popcorn to the pan to cover the bottom of the pan with only 1 layer of popcorn.

Continuously shake the pan across the burner until the popping is steady. As the popping begins to stop, remove the pan from the burner and move to a burner with no heat. Do not leave the pan on the heat until you hear the 'last' kernal pop, because you will probably burn the rest of the popcorn in the bottom of the pan.

Salt to taste. You can also pour melted butter over the popcorn.

In a large pot w/cover...A thin sheet of your favorite oil . Kernels to just cover,,, turn on the heat watch it sizzle,, cover at the first pop,, reduce to simmer as poping starts,, remove when the popping has more space than popping. Pour into large paper bag,, melt the butter in the same pot,, Pour over the popcorn while shaking the bag add a dash of salt AND most any stuff like Parmesan, season salt > > > ?

jiffy pop
