What food do you take to work ( not sandwiches)?!

Question:

What food do you take to work ( not sandwiches)?

I am wondering what other people take to work for food. If you eat take away or just make a sandwich then no need to respond thanks. I thinking homemade food. One I do is boiled potatoes, a can of tuna in oil, mix the tuna oil with mayonaise and wholegrain mustard and mix the lot together, it sits pretty heavy but now you know why I need some inspiration.

Answers:
I tend to take the route of making up something beforehand so all I have to do in the morning when I am not at my best is spoon a quantity into the appropriate container. All these have worked in the past!

Bit of chicken, marinated in some yoghurt, lemon juice and a bit of garlic and then grilled. Slice when cold. Then you can have it with some tabbouleh - soak 6oz of bulghar wheat. When the water is absorbed, mix with 3 - 4 finely sliced spring onion, lots (and I mean lots!!) of chopped fresh parsley, chopped fresh mint, and lemon juice, olive oil and salt & pepper. Add some chopped tomatoes just to the portion you are taking to lunch. (the quantity will make enough for several portions) Squeeze some lemon juice over just before you eat.

Or you might like to make up a chickpea salad - mix two tins of chickpeas, 4 chopped tomatoes, a finely sliced red onion, mint, parsley, a pinch of cumin, a pinch of paprika, 4 tbsps of lemon juice and one tbsp of olive oil. Leave in fridge for at least ten minutes. Again, will make several portions and goes well with the chicken.

New potatoes, cooked and then chopped in half or quarters depending on the size, mixed with greek yoghurt, a bit of garlic and herbs of your choice - tarragon works really well, is a simple tasty option to go with chicken, salmon, tuna or whatever.

Back on the middle Eastern theme, if you have time to spare at home you could always try making vineleaves - although you can get pretty good ones in tins from a middle eastern shop, or in packs from M & S or Sainsbury's

Make up some roasted peppers or other veg - easy to do - and then have with chicken, or salmon (the hot smoked you can get in the supermarket will do nicely) or salami, or feta - or any other protein that takes your fancy.

Home made tzatiki - easy to do and so much nicer than bought - or some hummous and veg.

I could go on - but hopes this provides some ideas.

my mom takes lean cuisines to work--she has a microwave there

I bring in Lean Cuisine meals and campbell's soup to reheat. Yummy

Soy power bar and some fruit. This meal prevents you from nodding off at 3:00.

there are way too many varieties of Stouffer food liked lasagna and stuffed peppers you can heat and eat for you to be wasting time clogging arteries with oil

That does not sound good take last nights leftovers

Tuna, pasta, sweetcorn, mayonnaise
Cous Cous with roasted peppers and mushrooms
Soups
Tuna and boiled egg salad
Totilla wraps stuffed with chicken tikka and salad
Chopped up chicken with savoury rice
Ryvitas with ham and cottage cheese
Leftovers from the night before (if you have a microwave)
Cheese and crackers, pickle, etc, (ploughmans)

pot noodle

There are these little packs of bruchetta with cheese and lovely flavoured chutneys - they are great but dont know who makes them

If you have a microwave available then here's my suggestion. Even though our children are out on their own I still cook meals that feed six to eight individual's. I stock up on re-usable Glad and Ziploc plastic containers when they are on sale and I fill them with individual portions of leftovers. I label the containers with the food contents and date I made it then freeze these portioned helpings. In the morning I grab a container from the freezer and I have a homemade delicious lunch. When the kids stop by they stock up on mom's homemade meals for their lunches and dinners too!

I used to take home made Lasagna, Cheese and potato pie , Spaghetti Bolognese and Jacket Potato`s to work in a microwave proof containers
My husband takes homemade Broth to work when he`s nights
The list is endless as long as you have the use of a microwave

I would make more for dinner and take leftovers for lunch. Try some burritos, they heat up well in a microwave.

Always throw in some fruit or a veggie, I find it helps with food boredom.

I always make enough dinner to put leftovers in plastic containers. The next day my husband and I take the containers to work and microwave for lunch.

If you have a thermos, take homemade soup or stew or chili.

How about pita bread stuffed with some sauteed veggies?

Smile Pasta~
With lotsa fave ingredients!
Never fails to put a smile on your face
=)

I have taken the following
Cous cous salad
Fruit salad
Rice salad
Pasta salad
Soup in a flask with a roll
Cup-a-soups
Because there is a microwave - I have taken in a potato and cooked it there and had that with a salad or I've taken in the filling that I want in a separate container (i.e tuna, cottage cheese, spring onions etc)
