Best if Used by date has expired. on my ground turkey..?!

Question:

Best if Used by date has expired. on my ground turkey..?

I just found a package of ground turkey in my freezer..its slighty freezer burnt and it has a best if used by sept 8, 2006...So I have been told that as long as a product hasnt been opened it will still be good after the "best if used by date" I plan on cooking it and putting it in my hamburger helper (i couldnt find regular ground beef) So I know this is probably not a great idea but if I cook it propoerly will the turkey make me sick..or will it just taste a bit off?

Answers:
EWWWW.... I'm sorry, but eating things taht are expired is well... disgudting. I mean one month is okay butafter 2 months it's been takne over by nasty bacteria that'll infect you and your family and raise your medical bill and make you feel really bad... I HOPE THIS MESSAGGE GETS TO YOU BEFORE U COOK THAT TURKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!

freezer burn is worse that spoiling. It kills the flavor and is sometimes evidence that the meat is expired. Food Lion got in a lot of trouble for using spoiled turkey and any poultry should never be used thawed past date (3 months if frozen). Poultry has salmonela and freezer burn can sometimes be a sign that the germ is still alive in your meat.

i always ask myself this simple question......how much did it cost and are you willing to be sick for that amount of money????
