Once I cut a vegetable, how do I store it?!

Question:

Once I cut a vegetable, how do I store it?

Specifically, once I cut a red pepper and an onion, how should I store them?

Answers:
As the others said, in a ziplock or sealed container (you don't want everything else to smell like pepper and onion!) in the refrigerator. And contrary to imapastry's answer, you can freeze chopped pepper and onion to use for cooking at a later date. In fact, you can find both of these in the freezer section of your market. They won't be good raw, but can be used for cooking. I don't know why anyone would think to freeze a cucumber!

I usually use a tupperware style container, which is good for a couple days. Anything beyond that and you should toss it into a compost heap.

i put them into ziplock baggies and pop em into the fridge. i would not recommend trying to freeze them like that though. i tried to do it and all i got was a smelly moldy half-frozen cucumber (thats what i was freezing) in the end. yuck. i agree though you should only do that if you know you're gonna use them in a couple of days. my veggies usually stay good in the fridge for up to a week, give or take.

baggies itll stay the same in anything you store it in

When I only need to use half of an onion or pepper I store the rest in a ziploc bag or tupperware container with a bit of water added..this keeps them crisp and moist..I have been doing this for years and have been successful in keeping them good for about a week...I do the same with celery, cucumbers, and pretty much any other veggies I use..

Any kind of container will work as long as you're able to seal it relatively tight. Ziploc bag, tupperware, etc., etc. Depending on freshness of veggie in question 1-4 days is what I usually get.

just wrap it with a foil and leave it in the freezer. it should be fine. I always keep odd pieces like that.

Wrap in a moist paper towel and put in an airtight container. Ziploc baggies are the best. Make sure that onions are seperate from other veggies to keep the smell to itself. Put them in the refrigerator, good for 2-3 days usually.

i put them in the freezer in zip-loc bags- but dice or slice them first- however you most commonly use that veg.

that way, next time a recipe calls for 1/2 of an onion, you have it ready, fuss free.

tupperware or ziplock bags

the wife wraps a damp paper towel around lettuce, then puts it in a plastic bag & into the fridge. It stays fresh for a week that way.

Dont know why this wouldn't work with other veggies..
