How do you soften cream cheese?!

Question:

How do you soften cream cheese?

I am making a dish and it says to add cream cheese, softened. Do I just let it sit at room temp or to I heat it up?

Answers:
room temp and then mash it. cut it into pieces and then with a fork mash and stir. Nuking it is fine, but make sure it's no more than 15 seconds. You still need to stir it. Do not add "hot" or very warm cream cheese to your mixture. It could cook the eggs or change the other ingredients chemistry.

The reasoning for the softened cream cheese in the recipe is so that the cream cheese is fully incorporated, without any clumps of cream cheese,

Let it sit at room temperature (take it out of its package first) for about 15 minutes. Otherwise, take it out of its package, then microwave for 15 seconds.

Good luck!

yes room temperature...and softened it by means of using a spoon in a bowl.

You can let it sit at room temp or you can just place it in the microwave for a few seconds. Now if you don't want to do that you can just always buy soft cream cheese or whipped.

Room temperature is fine. About an hour should do it.

With cream cheese, I always let it set out at room temperature. I don't think heating it will give you the results you are looking for. Let cream cheese set out for about a half hour to 45 min. Hope this helps!

Put it on top of something warm, like toast. Put a glob in the microwave - 5 seconds.

You can leave it out to come to room temp or take the foil off the cheese and put it in the micowave for 30 seconds or less. You just want it so it is not a hard stiff lump that will not blend in easy with other ingredients.

You let it sit at room temp until soft.

I warm mine in the microwave for about 15 seconds, take it out and stir it with a wooden spoon, and reheat another 15 seconds if needed.
