What's the best way to cook a steak?!
What's the best way to cook a steak?
I've got a nice piece of rump steak and I want to cook it so that it's nicely sealed on the outside but juicy though not too rare on the inside, what's the best way to achieve this? I only have a griddle pan by the way !
Answers:
A griddle pan is fine (I assume you mean a ridged one). Heat the pan to a high temperature. Put some oil on the meat (not on the pan) - slap it onto the pan, When you can easily move it, it is time to turn it over, Do so - when it is easily moved, remove from pan. Serve with lots of lovely steak cut chips, a bit of salad and some sauted mushrooms - and of course a glass of good red wine!
Lots of fat, high heat, 30 seconds on each side (max)
Oh - rare for me. So a good vet would be able to stick it back on the cow!
To get it how you want it, you only need to cook for about three-four minutes on each side. Depends on thickness I guess!
If it is around half an inch thick then it needs about 2 minutes either side to heat through and to leave it medium rare.
I like mine very rare with garlic salt on both sides whilst cooking and steak seasoning...done in a teaspoonful of corn oil which is preheated before putting in. Nice drop of red wine to wash down with the runny blood......ace!
Best wishes, Mike.
This is how I cook my steak on the stove
Season the steak as u normally would. Take some water and Slightly cover the bottom of a large skillet and some sliced onions under medium heat. Put steak on top of onions and cook. If the water dries out, add a little more water and put the top n the skillet.
to make sure you cook it right for you, take your thumb and finger and squeeze in-between your other thumb and finger, you will find out that from your first press its really soft this =rare , as you move in its harder this=medium and so on ,sounds stupid but I'm not winding you up this is how i do mine and not failed yet, don't forget to pinch your steak till it feels like your hand try it you wont be disappointed?
Fry it hard and fast.
well either u cook them in fry pan or George Foreman Grilling that way it less fatting or oven with onion and pepper and add some oxo flavor, some water too and about 30 min and check how steak u want to be cook. mine is well done.
Cook it in the oven. With foil on top. And watch it. Put seasons on top on it. And stick a fork in it and tatse it.
Try the following
Marinated Rump Steak
2 rump steaks, weighing about 7-8 oz (200-225 g) each
3 fl oz (75 ml) red wine
3 fl oz (75 ml) Worcestershire sauce
1 large clove garlic, peeled and crushed
1 teaspoon groundnut or other flavourless oil
To garnish:
a few sprigs fresh watercress
You will also need a shallow dish or lidded polythene box large enough to hold the steaks closely and comfortably.
Put the steaks in the shallow dish or polythene box, then mix the red wine, Worcestershire sauce and garlic together and pour this over the steaks. Cover with clingfilm or put the lid on, then place in the fridge for a few hours or, preferably, overnight. When you're ready to cook the steaks, drain and dry them carefully with kitchen paper, reserving the marinade.
Now take a medium frying pan, place it on a high heat and heat the oil until it's very hot. Then sear the steaks for 4 minutes on each side and, 2 minutes before the time is up, add the reserved marinade to the pan and let it bubble and reduce by about half. When the steaks are cooked, remove them from the pan to warm serving plates, then, using your sharpest knife, cut them into slices diagonally and spoon the sauce over. Garnish with the watercress and serve immediately
