Grilling hamburgers?!

Question:

Grilling hamburgers?

Do you thaw frozen hamburgers before grilling or is it better to grill frozen hamburgers?

Answers:
Grill from Frozen

thaw them firsts

thaw them, season them then cook them...if you do it while frozen..they will be burnt on the outside before they ever get done in the center

The issue is completely cooking ground meat . It should have an internal temperature of 160 degrees. If you cook them frozen you risk the chance that they will be cooked on the outside but still at an unsafe temperature in the middle. It can work, as long as you cook them on a low heat and make certain the middle is cooked.

If you buy a box of frozen hamburgers, generally there are directions telling you to grill them frozen. If you made them yourself and froze them, they may be to thick to grill frozen in that case, thawing would be better. It all depends on the thickness of the hamburger...that will adjust cooking times and if it is too thick it will burn on the outside and will be still frozen on the inside.

Thaw them! They must get done in the middle. Cook a spare to cut open to check. Or use a meat thermometer. Nothing grosser than biting into a burger and finding raw meat, Yuck! You could also microwave them for a while to get them partially done, then throw them on the grill to finish them off. That cuts down on the carcinogens you create by burning the meat.

I place mine in a 9X13 baking dish seasoned or marinade. Keep in refrigerator until completely thawed. Off to the grill they go....hmm.... sounds so good and taste great.

i perfer fresh, but if you go with frozen, (already patties) then toss on grill frozen, cover, wait couple mins. and then season. just watch them so you'll know when to flip'em. if you press on them more, they will dry out.
