Glass pan in the freezer?!

Question:

Glass pan in the freezer?

I made a lasagna in a glass lasagna pan. Can I put that in the freezer? Will the pan break or will it be OK?

Answers:
Yes if the pan is cooled (if it's even warm it might break). Make sure to cover up really well with foil to prevent freezer burn and don't leave too long (more than a week or two) or it might go bad. Then you can remove and defrost and then heat in the same pan.

Enjoy!

PS. this is a common thing for persons to premake meals for their families for an easy weeknight dinner.

PPS, I have done this with pans other than Pyrex with no problems. If it is good enough quality to stand the oven temps, it should stand the freezer

If its pyrex your ok. If not, 50/50.

Pyrex will not break it will do fine.

If it is Pyrex, then it shouldn't break. However, I don't think I'd take it straight from the freezer and put it in the oven.

You'd probably be better off cutting the lasagna into serving sizes, freezing them, then put them in ziploc freezer bags. You can reheat them on a plate in your microwave or you can put them in on a cookie sheet in the oven.

As long as it's Pyrex or similar tempered glass.
There are freezer storage containers that are still made of glass.
Don't put a hot pan in the cold freezer--otherwise everything should be fine.

If it is Pyrex it should be fine/ok, but if it isn't I wouldn't put it in the freezer, not a chance I would take, but do what you want. You have a free life.

The glass will be ok and not break just because it goes in the freezer. Glass has to be heated and cooled relatively slowly in order for the molecules to change appropriately. Glass breaks from sudden temperature changes when we don't allow enough time between the changes for the molecules to 'catch up' to the temperature. Before putting it in the freezer of reheating, make sure it sets out long enough to become room-temperature. Better yet, freeze in plastic then re-heat in metal or glass that is room temp.

Well....definitely don't put it straight from the oven to the freezer, or freezer to over, THAT'S for sure!!!!

I think it would only break if it went through an extreme temperature change really fast!!

Just be careful...I'm sure it will be fine!
