Answers:
Brown it first on all sides and place in a pre-heated 180C oven, covered on a lower shelf. Cook for 20 minutes and reduce heat to 165C.
Cook for 20 minutes per lb (70 minutes for you) and let rest in a warm place covered for 15-20 minutes.
That will enable you to make some gravy and check on everything else.
Is this a beef brisket? And I would strongly suggest at least partially cooking it stovetop for awhile to tenderize it. Briskets can be absolute bowling balls if not given time to really tenderize.
I'm not a huge brisket fan but the one I lke best is a sweet and sour sauce (think it's chili sauce, grape jelly or brown sugar, and a small amount of tomato sauce. I'll look up the specifics you are interested in making it this way. But that isn't for the oven. All I know about oven cooking is long and slow, but think most are par cooked first to tenderize beyond bbq type Brisket in professional cookers.
Let me know if you want more details, or if there is a type of sauce you like for it. I've also had it in a more of a brown gravy type but find that very dull.
