What exactly is blanching? who else can't stand Giada?!

Question:

What exactly is blanching? who else can't stand Giada?

Answers:
Sorry, I don't know exactly what blanching is, but I can answer your second question: I wouldn't say I hate Giada, but I definitely do not like her. She might be a nice person in "real life", because after all, it's hard to tell what a person is like off camera, but she seems phony to me. Her smile seems plastered on and fake. Her head seems too big for her body, and she give me the creeps.

Me

blanching is a cooking term to partially cook... who is Giada?

Blanching is to partially cook something by throwing it into boiling water, then usually into ice water to stop the cooking process. Say you wanted to freeze fresh broccoli, you'd blanch it before you could freeze it properly. Yes,skinny witch makes me want to strangle her,lol

Blanching is when you put fruit or vegies in hot water then put in cold water to stop cooking process. I love GIADA since u r into caps!!! She has a great cooking show and i also love her travel show. Great stuff!!!

Blanching is when you dip fresh veggies in boiling hot water for a few seconds/minutes to prepare them for freezing.
I like Giada. She's really nice. Did you see the biography shows about all the cooks from Food Network? She used to be really shy and had a hard time adjusting to tv. I think seeing her clevage all the time is a little annoying, but I like her.

Me love Giada, she is sooo hot, I can't stand Rachel Ray.

Blanching means to plunge food (usually vegetables and fruits) into boiling water briefly, then into cold water to stop the cooking process. Blanching is used to firm the flesh, to loosen skins (as with peaches and tomatoes) and to heighten and set color and flavor (as with vegetables before freezing). The only thing I don't like about Giada is when she uses her little fake "Italian" accent to say things like spaghetti and Parmagiano Reggiano and still pronounces them wrong. Other than that, she's great. And like most people, I can't stand Rachel Ray!

Blanching is putting fresh vegetables (occasionally fruit) into boiling water for 1 to 3 minutes, draining immediately and either putting into an ice water bath or pouring cold water over to stop the cooking, drain again and sometimes patting dry. This gives the food a bright color and flavor, but does not cook. It's great when you want to flash freeze a vegetable (do not do with berries!)
Blanched veggies are more attractive and even taste a little better for a veggie tray or in a salad.
Since I've never met Giada, I wouldn't know whether I like her as a person, but she does have some good ideas.

Blanching a tomato is a fast, simple way to get the skin off and the tomato is still fresh.

What do you have against Giada? If you don't like her, don't watch her show.

like her cooking, cant stand her

blanching is when you put something in boiling water until al dente (just under cooked) then stop the cooking process by draining the hot water and putting the foodstuff in an ice bath (water and ice).

I'm sure you got the blanching down by now. I am with Cheffy, the overly accented italian ingredient words irritates me, the cleavage isn't necessary either, unless she used it to hold her wooden spoons, but other than that she is okay, some of her recipes are okay, I just made one I saw today, lemon shrimp with linguine and I have to admit it was fantastic.

Everybody else answered the blanching question. I think giadas hot, man the chick has a huge mouth, but I can think of at least 1 big plus from that. :)

i agree with cheffy and foodieNY, i hate the way giada says "spigiti" instead of sphaghetti!!! i've been to italy several times and never heard anyone there say spigiti! other than that i guess she's ok (her head is too big for her body tho, i agree with that too!!!)

Now that you know what blanching is, I do like Giada's recipes, I have a favorite I make with italian sausage, rapini and tubular pasta. She is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, so she's a real chef. The only thing I don't like is the darn cleavage! It's obvious she's had surgery, but she doesn't have to advertise it on every show! I'd cook her recipes anyday before Rachael Ray's.
