How long can you leave chili out for?!

Question:

How long can you leave chili out for?

I cooked chili in the crockpot last night , and when i turned it off i forgot to put it in the fridge till early morning. Do you think its still good?

Answers:
Don't chance it. Once it cooled, it began to grow bacteria. Throw it out.

Safe food handling courses.

If you had the lid on it's fine. It might have simmered more even without the heat on.

any food left out more than a few hours (4 at the most) should be thrown out b/c bacteria has had a chence to grow-we had a restaurant growing up and my dad used to always say "keep it cold or keep it hot. whether its cooked or whether its not"--lame, I know but you get the point

It will be fine.

The rule is 4 hours, however I've done the same thing and eaten it. It never did me any harm.

It is definately not safe to eat any longer. 4 Hours is the limit to leave any food out and remain safe to eat, personnaly I wouldn't eat anything that was left out for more than an hour.

Definitely toss it if it's chili made with meat. The chances of strange bacteria thriving in there are incredibly high.

If it's vegetarian chili, I'd still throw it out if I were you, but if you're really desperate to keep it, it's safer than the meat. I definitely wouldn't give it to anyone pregnant or to any child, elderly person, or anyone with a weak immune system.

I vote no way. Better safe than sorry.
