Can you substitute anything for brown sugar in chocolate chip cookies?!

Question:

Can you substitute anything for brown sugar in chocolate chip cookies?

Answers:
cooking and food is an experiment and adventure.
Just do it
Yes Plain sugar will work you'll loose the molasses flavor.

probably regular sugar, but then your cookies will be white not brown.

Plain sugar and molasses is what brown sugar is.
I'm sure you can get away with using just plain sugar.

white sugar and molasses, using white sugar will not do any harm, but the cookies will not brown as much.

You can, but your cookies will be alot less moist.

Brown sugar is used in baking to help a recipe maintain a higher moisture content - not just to provide color or flavor. When you substitute white sugar for brown sugar, you adjust the moisture content of the batter.

I have been a professional baker for a long time - and have had substitution challenges alot. I never have had success with any substitute for brown sugar. The end product isn't the same.

Good Luck!
