Only serious opinion please... Anyone interested in a cooking website?
Hi
I like to cook for fun and I want to make a webpage for people who cook for fun.
Now, making a webpage costs money. I dont want to charge anything but just to maintain the webpage I am thinking that I have to charge about $2.00 per customer per month (approximately).
The webpage will include a biweekly journal with recipes by the subsctibers, a help section that'll post answers to the cooking questions, some activities and sweepstakes.
Now, what I want to know is, that if there was a website like that...will you pay the $2 per month to join?
Please answer only if you are serious. And any opinion/suggestions will be appreciated.

Well, the one webpage I planned will not cost me that much. And again I would like to mention that I am not doing this for profit. I will charge exactly the ammount I will need to run and maintain (arrange the sweepstakes for example). And if I get sponsers along the way then I will STOP charging the subscribers at once.

Great Question. Billie always finds these.
It would cost you more than $2 to process each $2 transaction. The idea is solid. You need to look for merchandise (yours or pass-throughs) that can be sold.
You will need a niche. As the smart girls already pointed out, we can go to food.com and get anything we need for free. Maybe a Recipe Contest Website. Different categories, sponsor prizes...that kind of thing...then you might get away with an entry fee?
Sorry but why pay 2 dollars a month when all you have to do is search the web for all your cooking needs free.
There are many of those that are already huge online. I pay around $20 a year for my premium account on recipezaar.com. Why would I want to pay $24 for a site that has no recipes at this point?
Recipezaar alone has sweepstakes and activities that are global. They also have a bazillion forums and ways to search and add recipes daily. Recipezaar isn't the only one but anybody can use all the features (except organizing the recipes you save/posting food photos/e-mailing out) for free...
(Also a Web page doesn't cost that much to put up... at this point you wouldn't even need your owns servers to store information on. It would probably cost YOU around $2 a month to run. It's not until you get super huge online that it would cost more.)
ok, what would the benefits be for subscribing cause this could be bigger than people think.
I might be interested so e-mail at
vnss_130@yahoo.com
I would pay the fee if is was different from the others, what you could do it feature people who cook every time you post a recipe is should have a story (love, first date, dinner&movie, games night etc) story that will make you want to try the recipes, also some sweepstakes and activities yes
It does not need to cost a penny unless you are looking to launch a glossy magazine online. You can open your own Yahoo Group for free?
I'm ALWAYS interested in cooking and recipe websites. There are too many free ones available, so I wouldn't pay to join a site.
The ones where I submit my tips and recipes are:
Compuserve
Penzeys
Yahoo
The sites that I use on a regular basis, in addition to the above, are:
Cooking Light
Food TV
Epicurious
Williams Sonoma
