Hot stuff in refrigraton?
Is it alright to put hot things in the refrigrator,,or should you wait til things get cooler???
Answers:
Don't put hot things in the refrigerator!! First the motor has to work twice as hard to keep things cool and also, it's a great place for bacterias to grow! The water condensates and forms a perfect place for bacteria to grow and eat.. that's why you should'nt do it...
let it cool down
cool them for like ten min. too cool and they will lose flavor or keep cooking
you can put stuff in there hot but be careful if you have glass shelves in the fridge, and, it will also warm the temp in the fridge a bit but leaving something out, especially meat or chicken, can be safely done for about 10-20 minutes then refrigerate......................
No, putting warm items in the fridge will raise the temp in the fridge and could cause other items to spoil. It also runs up you electric bill.
You can speed the cooling by wrapping the item in a cool towel or sitting it in a sink with cool water. Glass cook ware could break from a rapid cooling.
Cool them down first. If you've made something like stew or have left over pasta that has been mixed or tossed in a sauce, in large amounts, put them in a long casserole dish or if your lucky a stainless steel hotel pan to facilitate the cooling. If you've made stock put the stock pot in the sink and let cold water run around the pot, while stirring to disperse the heat and cool it off faster. You would want to cool things down to 70 Degrees F within the first 2 hours and down to 41 degrees within the next 4 hours to limit bacterial growth. Also, as stated by previous posts, it causes the refrigerator to work more, but also brings the temperature of the refrigerator up as well the food inside in the danger zone (41 deg. F to 135 deg. F.)
