Hints of what to do with crusts off a loaf of bread?!

Question:

Hints of what to do with crusts off a loaf of bread?

Our whole family dont eat the crust on the end off a loaf of bread. I generally make some garlic bread with it or feed it to the ducks. Any other suggestions? That I could make with it?

Answers:
Dry your crusts of bread in a very low oven until they are crunchy and completely dry. You only want to dry them not cook them so use a very low oven setting over a period of a couple of hours or so.

When your crusts are dry, make them into crumbs. Just place them in a plastic bag and roll them with a rolling pin (you can also use a wine bottle) until you get nice fine breadcrumbs. Keep them in an airtight container away from light in a cool place. You can refrigerate or even freeze them for long term storage.

The crumbs have many uses: Mixed with herbs as toppings for vegetables; mixed with herbs and cheese over baked pasta dishes; use them in meatloaf and hamburgers; they can be used fruit pies as a binder instead of cornstarch. Breadcrumbs are really useful.

Good luck.

make breadcrumbs or croutons

SEASONED CROUTONS

Melt 1 stick butter in large microwave safe bowl. Dice 8 slices of bread in 1/2 inch cubes. Add to melted butter. Sprinkle lightly with a variety of spices: basil, oregano, poultry seasoning, sage, onion powder, and thyme. Gently toss cubes in melted butter until evenly coated. Microwave on High about 10 minutes, stirring frequently, or until desired crispness is reached.

make crutons or feed it to the ducks.

i suggest bread pudding :)

Add it with salmon-roll sause( i think u get get it from IKEA )and top it up with cheese.

if you have a fair amount of bread crusts, make a mock quiche... bread kind of chunked up, some milk whisked with some egg, add cheese, bacon, sausage (both cooked already), add black olives, green chiles, diced tomato, whatever anyone likes

Stick in a pan, let sit until bread has soaked through, and bake it until it smells delicious and the the cheese on the top is melted well

Cross between a quiche and an omlette.... wonderful for breakfast...

You are welcome to e-mail me for an actual recipe if you're not the experimental "little of this, little of that" sort.

I wish you luck :)

Shake n bake with herbs and chicken!!

make bread crumbs and freeze them so that they dont mold

A bread or Panzanella salad.

Italian Bread Salad
Serves: 4

5 cups Italian or wheat bread, torn into bite size pieces or cubed
2 cups tomatoes, chopped
1 cup (4 oz) mozzarella cheese, cubed
1/4 cup fresh basil, thinly sliced
1/4 cup green onions, thinly sliced

Red Wine Vinaigrette
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons red wine or raspberry vinegar
1-2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Toss bread, tomatoes, cheese, basil, and green onions together in a large bowl. In a jar with a tight-fitting lid, combine vinaigrette ingredients. Cover and shake until well mixed. Drizzle vinaigrette over bread salad and toss to coat.

I tear them up and throw them in a freezer bag so that when I make a meatloaf or meatballs, i pull them out pour some milk over them and add it to my meat mixture. It makes for a really tender meatloaf or meatball.

You can save it for bread crumbs, crutons...you can even throw it into your meat loaf or any kind of meat patties! Just don't throw it away!
