Question:

Quick and simple recipes for starters for at least 15 people?

my family are visiting me in france from england so need some easy food ideas im only 20 and the thought of cooking for 20 people of all ages is scarey so any help woulb be great thank you

Answers:
If you want a quick appetizer then use some Ritz crackers (if you have that brand in France) and put some pizza sauce (or catsup), a pepperoni and some shredded cheese and bake it for a few minutes.
For a main course, quick and simple isn't going to work with 20 people. You are going to have to roast a couple of hams or turkey. The other possibility is having an outdoor cookout.

lasagna is always a crowd pleaser and goes a long way, also bake a ham or turkey , hamburgers and hot dogs with salad for a night, good luck I just fed 15 for two weeks and it can be a job.

Prawn cocktail served with pasta and salad small portions tastes and looks great on the plate.

That would be scary for you. Keep it very simple. Get at least 3 loaves of fresh bread from the bakery. (a variety) Dont butter it allow guests to do this. Make a fresh salad in a large bowl of a salad of your choice. In Australia we generally make a toss salad with lettuce / tomato / onion / cucumber / capsicium / avocado. Get enough small potatoes to fed everybody and cook until tender in microwave when cooked pour melted butter and parsley on top. (oh yeh to cook potatoes in microwave prick potatoes with fork and place in a microwave bowl with a little water and cover with cling wrap) about 8 minutes in microwave. Then go to the shop and get a couple of cooked chickens (approx 3) or a cooked meat of your choice. Also just grab a couple of apple pies from the shop heat and have cream/custard to serve. It will all look lovely and they will think you went to so much trouble.
Good luck. (you wont need it! Just dont stress they really just want to see you!)

A very simple starter I have made before is a Bagna Caude (hot bath) Melt 1/2 pound of butter, add 250ml extra virgin olive oil, 5 or 6 (more if you like) garlic cloves chopped and crushed and 6 to 8 anchovy filets chopped, let this bubble away on a low heat. This will meld all of the flavours together.

Cut up a whole load of crudites, courgettes, baby maize, carrots, cauliflower etc etc basically any veggies and some crispy bread.

Keep the butter etc warm at the table and get your guests to dip their crudites into the mixture and hold a piece of bread underneath to sop up any butter that drips from the crudite, then eat the bread..... Yum yum and dead easy.
