Defrosting chicken?!

Question:

Defrosting chicken?

I took two chicken breasts out to defrost yesterday lunchtime and didn't fancy eating them last night. Can I still cook them and eat them today? Or will it have bred bacteria?

Forgot to say I defrosted them at room temp but they were shrink wrapped.

I do biiology, so try giv u the scientific answer.

it will be fine. If it is air tight, no new bacteria would have got in. Also most bacteria need oxygen (like most animals).

If the shrink wrap was strangely puffed out, as in new air had got in, Than that could mean that bacteira is living in the chicken and is letting off carbon dioxide when they breath puffing out the plastic - but this scenario is highly unlikely. So if it hadnt puffed out, than any bacteria inside would have died.

Also just smell it usually works, if it smells fine than its ok

one more thing - bacteria cannot live too well when its hot, so if you want to be absolutely certain just make sure you cook it properly - trust me, you can eat anything if you could it long enough

If scientists have eaten the meat of frozen wooly mammoth they found from 10'000 years ago - im sure youre chicken breats will be ok. Also people can eat tinned food from world war 2, because its been air tight the whole time

yes within 24 hours they should be fine as long as they were in the fridge

depends where you defrosted them. If in the fridge, they're ok, if not, throw them away.

If they have been in the fridge then it should not be a problem. They will be good to eat. If they were defrosted in the open they won't be good to eat and will smell.

Yes that is ok.
but do not refreeze
them, unless you cook
them cool them down then
refreeze. I love chicken.

if u cook them properly then u will not have any food born illness

also, no cross cntaminaton would be good too

People make such a fuss about chicken!

You just need to make sure it is cooked properly - not nuked to death but cooked. Some of the upmarket restaurants are now serving chicken very slightly pink as they know they are sourcing chicken that is guaranteed free of salmonella.

Anyhoo - with standard supermarket chicken, make sure it is cooked through and you will be fine.

Enjoy :)

Yes they will be fine, but make sure that you use them today

As long as they were in a fridge then your OK. If you left them out on the counter all night and day then throw them away.
