How do I properly store veggies in the refrigerator?!

Question:

How do I properly store veggies in the refrigerator?

my veggies all end up gross, mushy, soggy, etc. Do i put them in the drawers or on the shelves? Do they need a lot of humidity or less humidity? Do i leave them in the plastic produce bags or take them out? Any tips at all will be appreciated.

I take my veggies and take them out of the bag once I get home.I take a few paper towels and put on the bottom of the bin to get any extra moisture. Then just lay them loosely in the bin.Mine keep well, I do use them quickly...

First you will want to take them out of the bag and wash them off. Then use whatever portion of the veggies that you are going to cook. Then take some paper towels and wet them, don't have the paper towels so wet where there dripping water. Then wrap it around the vegetables and it will keep them fresh for a little while.....(about a week to a week in a half).

It's depends on the veggies actually. Potatoes and onions shouldn't be refridgerated. Keep them in a cool dry place. Tomatoes also shouldn't be refridgerated. Another good thing is to buy all of your greens already in the bag. They somehow have manufactured these bags that allow the greens to stay fresh in the bag for a week or so without wilting. I have never seen a carrot go bad, and celery I wrap in papertowel and put in a ziplock bag. Peppers & cukes are generally good for about a week just tossed in your drawers. Mushrooms tend to get soggy pretty quickly and also like low humidity. They should be stored in the fridge, but you probably won't get a week out of them.

The tips you have already received are good ones. Remember only to wash them as you need them.
