What can you season steamed vegetables with?!

Question:

What can you season steamed vegetables with?

I am steaming broccoli, peppers and yellow squash. What can I season them with and how do I add it?

Answers:
You can put garlic right in the steamer with them.
You can use salt and pepper.
You can use any Mrs. Dash flavor.
You can steam them in chicken broth.
You can put lemon over them.
The possibilities, my friend, are endless. What type of seasoning do you like????

season with whatever is your favorite... after the veggies are steamed and in a bowl or serving plate.

Lemon-butter.
Salt and pepper
Seasoned salt

You can flavor some melted butter and then pout it over the veggies. If you use garlic you can put it right in while you're steaming them for a light flavor.

Grated cheese
Lemon juice and olive oil
Sesame seeds and vinegar

You can add the seasonings to the veggies prior to steaming and they taste a lot better. Especially when using fresh pepper from a grinder - it softens the little bits if you know what I mean.

Costco has a great Sea Salt and Garlic grinder that is really really good

They also have a lemon pepper grinder that is very good also

I would try garlic, pepper mixes are good and if you like asian foods you can try a ginger mix or asian 5 spice.

Just about anything will work - it's your taste so whatever works for you.

Emeril has some good spices out there - I haven't tried them personally but I have had others tell me that they are good.

salt, pepper and garlic or
lemon pepper or
italian seasoning or
crushed red pepper.
Lots of choices, if you don't like these you could season with just about anything you like. Good luck!

Try grated cheddar cheese, salt & pepper.

balsamic vinegar, olive oil and fresh parsley or basil

or fresh rosemary and tyme

I would keep it simple. It is easy to over do it. Take your favorite spices and litely sprinkle over the vegetables as they steam then close the lid and you are good.

My fav. is simply a bit of garlic salt some prefer garlic powder I also will usually put a couple of cloves in as well

A few tricks for you from a professional chef

First of all I ALWAYS parboil any vegetables i'm going to be steaming for service later. BUT there's a trick we do so that your carrots are this great bright orange and your broccoli is this wonderful bright green color.

first boil some heavily salted water and have on hand another bowl of heavily salted ICE water....You're going to flash boil your veggies for maybe 20-30 seconds....that's it

then as soon as you're done put them into the salted ice water. Now what's going to happen is that the chlorophyll is going to come to the surface and give all your veggies these bright colors. Then you would steam as normal to cook them al dente.

now...for flavoring!

I enjoy making a seasoned beurre monte. First all you do is remember this ratio.... 4T water to 1 pound butter....

Now. boil the water then slowly and i mean very slowly begin to whisk in your butter bit by bit waiting for it to combine together thoroughly before adding more butter. When you're all finished I like to season mine with just a bit of rosemary and thyme. Then you simply pour it over your veggies when they're finished. It's absolutely delicious. Please keep in mind you need to use butter and NOT margarine

I do garlic. Sometimes I use the flavored vinegars they make. Or flavored olive oils. Just pour the oil over the vegetables you are steaming. You can put the vinegar in the water - plenty of it. Flavors are like garlic, balsamic, red wine, rice vinegar, basil, cilantro, etc.

Butter and seasoned salt.
