Food from scratch...?!

Question:

Food from scratch...?

I'm looking to start making most of our food from scratch. What kind of grocery items should I pick-up? I need recipes for things that carry well since we will both be taking the food to work with us. Also it must be food that is good for a growing baby because I am pregnant. Any recipes or advise is welcome. Thanks.

How about making a roast and using the left overs for sandwiches.............. Left over baked chicken was always a winner when I would but it in my husbands lunch..........
Home made pie is also good. sliced carrots and celery are also good.
This is what I would but in my husbands lunch pail
Home made apple pie or what ever kind I would make
4 - 6 home made cookies
2 - roast beef sandwiches
1 piece of left over chicken
2 pieces of peppermint candy
fruit fresh or canned

I don't have any recipes right off, but you should always keep things like eggs, flour, sugar, and butter on hand.

It seems to me that you'll need to decide what recipes you'll be making and then buy the items you need to make them. I don't think you can buy a random assortment of grocery items and have the right stuff to prepare full meals.

As far as lunches, I don't think there's anything easier to carry than sandwiches. Cook up a turkey or ham and make some yummy sandwiches.

Salads are great for work and you can make them with a variety of ingredients-here is one from my country that is great-
greek village salad:
2 fresh tomatoes
1 cucumber
1 green pepper
some feta cheese
sprinklw with fresh oregano ,salt ,pepper and add little olive oil and vinager.
you can also add onions
when the salad is finished there will be the juice left which is the best dipping sauce for fresh bread.

I recommend buying or borrowing the book "Cooking for Dummies" from the library. It provides a list of pantry items that you should stock. Also, subscribe to "Cook's Country" magazine. Lots of practial, everyday recipes, but no cooking from a box with either of these sources. I recommend seeking out vairous cookbooks & magazines that you like.
And congratulations on eating more authentically. It's so much more satisfying & healthful than Hamburger Helper. :)

Frittata. Ham.
6 eggs beaten.
1 teaspoon oil.
? cup grated cheese
200g ham.
Tomato.
Salt and freshly ground Black Pepper.
1 table spoon of Fresh chopped parsley.

Heat the fry pan and add oil on a low heat and add cheese, ham, tomato, salt and pepper to beaten eggs and stir in.
Pre heat the grill.
Pour in the egg mixture and cook for 5 minutes. Do not stir.
To finish cooking put under the preheated grill until the top is brown. Be careful with the handle if it is plastic.
Serve sprinkled with the parsley. Turn out and cut like a pizza.
It can be eaten hot or cold so can be wrapped and taken to work.
You could use some thawed frozen vegetables instead of the ham if you wished.
