Answers:
Heat oven to 350 degrees
Lay a row of aspargus on a sheet of aluminum foil.
Sprinkle with olive oil, fresh lemon juice, garlic powder, salt & pepper.
Toss.
Cover with same size sheet of foil and fold & crimp the edges together to make a pouch.
Cook it for 8 minutes or so.
This is really good.
Yes you can do it that way. But if you put anything on them like seasonings or anything...when you choose a slower cooking method like Grilling or the oven, the flavor gets to sink in and it tastes much better!
You should steam it in a double boiler.
You can just put a little olive oil on them and some salt and pepper and then bake them on like 400 for 20 minutes. they will not be soggy but they will be tasty!
Trim tough root ends from asparagus spears, then cut into 2-inch lengths. Place in microwave-safe bowl with a lid. Sprinkle asparagus with kosher salt, onion powder, and garlic powder.
Pour in lemon juice and dot with butter.
Cover with lid and microwave on high power for 2 to 3 minutes. Stir to distribute seasonings. Cook another 2 to 3 minutes until asparagus is tender. Stir once more before serving.
Yield: 4 servings
Just steam it. Do you have a steamer basket? If not you can buy it cheap at Wal-Mart. You put it in t pan filled with a little water on the bottom and put the asparagus in the steamer basket and close the lid. Steam it until soft. It is good with a little butter and salt on it. Maybe some garlic.
We cook it all the time. Place about a 1/2 inch of water in a skillet wide enough to let the asparaghs lie flat. Bring to a boil....place asp. in it, then cook on medium for about 5-10 minutes. That's it....
It is delicious cooked in the microwave. Just clean it, cut the woody parts of the stem off, lay it in a relatively shallow baking dish, add a small amount of water, cover with plastic wrap, and cook on high for about 7 minutes, turning the pieces over half-way through. You can season with any herbs, spices, that appeal to you.
grill them with seasonings or lemon juice
Steam it!! Put a small amount of water in a shallow pan, bring to a boil and drop it in for 5 minutes covered. Also, just plain grilled is great.
Sauteed Garlic Asparagus
INGREDIENTS
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 bunch fresh asparagus
3 cloves garlic, chopped
DIRECTIONS
Melt the butter or margarine in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and asparagus spears; cover and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until asparagus is tender. If you like your asparagus well done, reduce heat and cook an additional 10 minutes.
Enjoy!
put it in a pan with very little water and turn it on low heat. if it starts to get dry, then put more water in it. you can put flavoring in it too but it tastes finewithout it. just leave it in there until it's steamed. and then serve it with butter to dip it in.
I bought a steamer for my microwave. It is a plastic dish with a base, a middle rack, and a clear cover. It cost about $15. I make all my vegetables in it including asparagus. It probably takes less than 5 minutes.
You can also stir fry in a little oil.
yes use a shallow baking dish with about a 1/4 a cup water place in the asparagus stocks (sorry you still have to pill them from the tips down) so that none are over lapping cover with Saran wrap and cook for 3 minutes this will give you a steamed asparagus. this also works on the stove with a fry pan just put about 1/2 cup water in the pan bring to a simmer and pop in the asparagus cook till fork tender
I just use a frying pan or skillet and put some olive oil in it, season it with salt & pepper and just cook it =) its very simple and delicious! Also I have cooked them on the grill, seasoned with balsamic vinger and salt & pepper.
Single guy to single guy.
Fill a pan with just enough water to cover the stalks. Simmer, dont boil, until they are cook thru. You want them to be flexible, but not wilted over. You dont want them to be like your unit after a good shag. You want them to be in the "chub" stage if you know what i mean.
When you bite it, it should be tender, yet give some resistance.
When they are done, add a pat or two of butter and some course sea salt.
please do not microwave them!
bake it on a cookie sheet in the oven with some olive oil and spices. yum.
You can steam it using a double broiler. You won't be able to add any seasonings that way, but I do it all the time and use a little lemon juice or red wine vinegar.
I cook mine in a skillet or large fry pan with some olive oil on a medium burner, it does take a while, you do not want to burn them, stir frequently..........until soft, you should be able to fork it............
if i were you, i'd just steam it. it's healthier and it tastes great. just for a few minutes, until it's tender but still crisp. make sure you don't over cook it, or it will become mushy. :p
Fresh asparagus is extremely easy to make and is most delicious when prepared simply. I almost always steam mine in the microwave because it's so easy - trim it and put it with just a little water in a microwave-safe dish, cover tightly and cook on high for a few minutes. The most difficult part is figuring out the timing -- you don't want it crunchy but you don't want it limp either. Usually when I start smelling the odor, I know it's time to take it out. Just drain it and sprinkle with some salt and pepper and a little butter.
It's also delicious dressed with olive oil and salt and pepper and roasted in the oven at a pretty high temperature. Also an easy way to prepare it.
I think your supposed to put an OR in between all those cooking methods.
Boiling is the common
But there is no reason you cant stuff the whole lot in the blender an make cream of asparagus soup..
I think it is best steamed or grilled.
To steam it, you will need a steamer basket, for either stove top, or microwave use.
Anyway, steam it for about 7-9 minutes and serve it with a cheese sauce.
To make the cheese sauce:
Melt 2 TBS butter in a sauce pan over medium-low heat. Add 2 TBS all-purpose flour, salt and pepper to taste. Stir the flour well, cooking it over medium-low heat until the flour starts to take on just a little color.
Add 1 cup of milk, whisking well to break up any lumps. Then add four ounces of Velveta Cheese, cut into small cubes.
Continue heating over medium-low heat until the cheese melts, and the sauce starts to bubble around the edges. Stir often, constant stirring is even better. When it starts to bubble, turn the heat down to low and let it simmer a minute or two.
Serve over steamed asparagus or any other steamed vegetable, such as cauliflower, broccoli, or Brussels sprouts.
Another good way to cook asparagus is to grill it.
Use a ridged grill pan, spray it with cooking oil, or non-stick spray, and heat well. Marinate your asparagus in a little seasoned oil with some finely chopped onion and garlic. place the asparagus on the grill pan, across the ridges, and grill for a couple of minutes on each side.

Yep, my son wanted to know the same thing and this is how I taught him to cook asparagus. He is a "nuke it or boil it" guy too.
If you have some heavy duty aluminum foil, make a "basket" that will fit inside your saucepan with a little room around the sides. Place the asparagus in the "basket", pour about 3/4 cup of water in the pan (don't pour it into the "basket").
Put the lid on the saucepan and bring water to a boil. Then turn the heat down about halfway. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes or until crispy tender. Lift the "basket" out of pan and add your seasonings or sauce. Then it's ready to serve.
When you have a dollar to spend, go to a dollar store and get one of those steamer baskets. They are made out of shiny perforated metal with a lot of sides that fold out. This will beat building one out of foil.

Ok here's an easy way.. wash it, cut the tuogh ends off it and then cut it into sizes that will fit in to your skillet easily.
Melt some butter, a few tablespoons, and saute it on a very low heat until tender.
May add a bit of garlic, salt, pepper and lemon juice to it if you prefer.
It comes out tender, buttery and not mushy like some boiled asparagus. And of course full of calories for the health nut
I really enjoy grilling asparagus. I hate limp boiled or steamed asparagus. I usually marinate in Dales Sauce our Worsterchire (sp). Cracked pepper and on the grill. I serve it so it still has a little "crunch". You can even pick it up with your fingers.
Just drizzle the raw asparagus with a little olive, salt and pepper and roast in a hot oven. I like it to still be a little crisp so it doesn't get mushy or stringy like it sometimes does when you boil it. You can also pan fry it in a small amount of olive oil and butter, season with salt and pepper. When it's beginning to brown a little, I add a dash of lemon juice.
Cut the woody ends off - rinse - put in a flat container or on a plate with a splash of water - cover with a little section on side open to vent. Put in the microwave for 4-5 minutes then let sit for several more minutes then add a little butter and salt sometimes I add a little lemon to make it brighter looking. Very easy!!
