How do you make BBQ chicken?
My friend and I got into an argument. She claims the only way to make BBQ Chicken is to deep fry it, then just put BBQ sauce on it. I say that you have to cook it in the oven, or cook it on the grill. Could somebody solve this dispute?

why do you ask the same question over and over and over? there are lots of different ways to make BBQ chicken. the way I do it is to put chicken in a pan and pour BBQ sauce all over it, then bake it at 375 degrees until it is done. or I marinate the chicken for a day or two then grill it.
cook up what ever it is that you're trying to cook... at the last 5 minutes of you cooking the meat add the BBQ sauce. taste great.

Technically speaking, barbecued chicken is done on the grill. If your prepare it in the oven it is oven baked chicken with barbecue sauce. I don't know why anyone would ruin fried chicken with barbecue sauce, but it's still fried chicken, just with barbecue sauce on it.
INGREDIENTS
4 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons ketchup
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon chili powder
12 chicken thighs, skin removed
DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C). In a small saucepan over medium heat, stir together the water, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt, mustard powder, and chili powder. Simmer the sauce for 15 minutes.
Place the chicken thighs into an oblong baking dish, and pour the sauce over them. Cover tightly.
Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce the temperature to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C), and bake for one hour. Remove cover, stir and bake uncovered for 15 minutes.

8 3-pound chickens, quartered or cut into serving pieces
4 cups tomato sauce
1/2 cup light soy sauce
1/2 cup white or apple cider vinegar
12 ounces beer
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon pure ground hot red chile
1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
3 large cloves garlic, finely minced
Directions:
Place the chicken pieces in large oiled baking pans, skin-side up, and bake at 450 degrees for 45 minutes. Meanwhile, combine the rest of the ingredients in a 2-quart saucepan and simmer, uncovered, over low heat for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and stir to combine well. Remove chicken from the oven and pour off he collected pan juices. Reserve one cup and add to sauce. Bring sauce to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for another 15 minutes. Pour the sauce over the chicken (still in the pans) and marinate for one hour, basting frequently with the sauce.
Prepare the grill. When coals are ready, arrange them evenly on either side of the grate, and place a drip pan in the middle. Add some soaked wood chips for more smoke. Remove chicken from marinade, saving the sauce for basting and serving at the table. Place the chicken on the grill, skin-side up, centered over the drip pan. Cover the grill. Baste chicken frequently as it cooks. Turn it after 30 minutes. Continue grilling, basting often, for 60 to 70 minutes, or until it is very tender and smoky. Serve with the remaining sauce.

Heres a simple idea, Parboil the chicken for just about 10 minutes. Drain and put in bowl w/your favorite barbecue sauce coating it for at least 1-2 hours before grilling. Add more barbecue sauce and baste while grilling. Parboiling helps it to be cooked faster, without all that fat splatter. Soaking it in the sauce gives it flavor. You also do not have to overcook the chicken to make sure its done. This way, it stays moist. Thats the way I like it. But theres no "right or wrong" way. Just the way you like it...
I would bake it in the oven till it is done then pour off the grease, put bbq sauce on it and turn up the heat to bake the sauce into the chicken and it is starting to look cooked.
Or cook it on the grill till it is done and then put the sauce on and cook it till it is cooked in looking, it is hard to explain how it looks.
Just slathering the sauce onto cooked meat is not good, the flavor of the sauce is just on the outside, you have to cook it in for a while, like 10 minutes or so.
I cook mine on the grill until done and then smother with bbq sauce and cook for about 5 more minutes per side. it gives it a nice crispy skin.
BBQ'd chicken is just that........BBQ'd......No frying, no oven baking, and certainly no boiling.
Fire up your grill, leave a "hot side" and "cooler side" whether using charcoal or gas.
Give you chicken a good rub of dry ingredients, or soak in a wet marindade overnight. Place on HOT side of grill to sear...turn, but to not pierce skin, and after all sides are seared (whether it's whole, or pieces), move to cooler side of grill, cover and let cook until properly done (1-2 hours on low heat for a whole chicken.......20-30 min on cool side for pieces.........breasts cook faster and dry out faster than legs or thighs.
You can mop on any sauce toward the end, but if you douse it with BBQ sauce at the beginning, you will have a burned mess and raw chicken.
A truly juicy BBQ'd chicken can either be a Beer In the Butt whole chicken, or a whole chicken rubbed with excellent herbs and spices.......then set to the cooler side, put the grill top down, and let slow cook. Pieces can be BBQ'd too, just sear on high heat, then move to cooler side to let cook slowly, then douse with your BBQ sauce if you wish.
