Is Teflon coating on the cooking vessels poisonous?!

Question:

Is Teflon coating on the cooking vessels poisonous?

I heard that Teflon coating on the cooking vessels can cause
cancer/poisonous. Is that true..

Answers:
In order for teflon to burn off as a gas, an empty pan must be left on the burner over high heat for 15 minutes or longer. Breathing these fumes can give a person flulike symptoms for up to three days. There have been cases of cancer in the factory workers during the teflon production and application process in the 60's and 70's, but no known cases from cooking dinner in a kitchen. If you are not cooking empty pans over high heat, I wouldn't worry about it.

I do know that when teflon coatings in cookware are overheated, they emit a poisonous gas that has been known to kill birds. As for cancer or otherwise, I cannot say for sure.

poison

I'm no chef, but I've heard that if the Teflon comes off into your food it can harm you. Yes, it can happen if the pan gets really old or you clean/use it improperly.

There is a difference in coatings. Cheap Teflon is dangerous for all living things.

Hard anodized "stick free" coatings are much better but probably not "perfect."

At least it has made me think about the subject.
