Question:

Does any one know how to make the icing they use on cakes in stores?

Answers:
Buttercream frosting. It's easy: You Will Need
1 cup butter, softened
8 cups confectioners' sugar
6 tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Food coloring, optional

What to Do
In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, confectioners' sugar, milk and vanilla (frosting will be thick). Add food coloring if desired.

Makes: 5 cups

No!!! Don't do it!!! too...much...dye.... :)

Make your own type of icing. Check out books like The Joy of Cooking for ideas on how to do it. Or go to different websites and type in Homemade Cake Icing. You'll definitely need eggs, whipped cream, flavoring, sugar, and butter.

You can even make a very simple icing with a little milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar.

please do not!!!
It contains Crisco, powdered sugar and food dye...
make your own, please....

Though I don't buy cakes from Walmart, the store I shop at uses a typical butter cream frosting and the Wilton website has tons of recipes for frostings. Someone said don't make it because it has Crisco in it. Well, yes it does. Frosting is not a diet food.

I am a pastry chef at a 5 star hotel. I'm going to give you my own personal swiss butter cream recipe. It's the best you will ever taste. Adjust the recipe to what you need

INGREDIENTS

2 pounds 8 oz egg whites
4 pounds granulated sugar
5 pounds ROOM TEMPERATURE BUTTER
1T vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS
1. Combine the sugar and egg whites in a large bowl over a d ouble boiler. using your hands mix until there is no more grittiness on the bottom of your bowl or anywhere within the egg/sugar mixture. Continue to mix until the mixture bcomes to hot to keep your hand in any longer. Cooking it further than this will overcook your egg whites
2. In a large mixing bowl pour your egg/sugar mixture and vanilla into the bowl and with the whip attachment whip this mixture until it becomes thick and opaque BUT NOT a meringue!
3. Toss in your room temperature butter and allow to whip up until it becomes frosting. about 15 to 20 minutes.

*NOTE*
When you toss in your butter it's going to look broken up and inedible...give it time. It will all come together eventually. If it's still not looking like frosting after 20 minutes let it beat a bit longer. sometimes you need as little as 5 or 10 minutes if everythings perfect. DO NOT PUT FROSTING IN THE FRIDGE! this will cause it to harden up and will become unusable.

also, this icing is great for crumb coating wedding cakes. simply layer your cake and put a thin layer all around the cake and place in the fridge for about an hour. The buttercream will then harden and the crumbs will stay in place and not get into your icing. but when you are ready to eat this cake. make sure the buttercream comes to room temperature. it really brings out the flavor more.

please enjoy
3.

ooooooo with lots of chemicals and potions and preservatives, and probably 3 bags of sugar....it's not natural hun, we couldnt give you a recipe without applying for govt. grants. (go to a REAL bakery...those people make their frosting fresh...but walmart or your neighoborhood grocer...YIKES!!)
