Kneading dough necessary with kitchen aid mixer?!
Kneading dough necessary with kitchen aid mixer?
I enjoy baking bread from time to time which is why I bought this heavyduty mixer. Also, because, I think it kneads the dough for you, right? I have weakened wrists and can't knead anymore. Am I right in assuming that mixing the dough with the dough hook for 6-8 minutes takes care of the kneading?
Answers:
yes.. a KitchenAid does a pretty good job. 6 to 8 minutes sounds about right.
I start with the flat beater to mix the ingredients together.
After all the wet and dry stuff is mixed I switch to the kneading hook and let it run.
I've also used a food processor and that takes about 1 minute.
Yep! Martha Stewart always uses a Kitchen Aid mixer with dough hooks on her show! I rarely see her do it by hand. You might not need to do it for that long, even.
Yep, works quite well. Just be sure not to overload the mixer, you don't want to burn out the motor on your new mixer. I wound up having to half my favorite bread recipe because a full recipe was too much for my mixer (not the biggest one available).
Pretty much. You want to see the dough pull cleanly away from the side of the bowl , that indicates that you have reached the right dough consistency.
I usually knead by hand for another minute or so just to get the tactile feed back from the dough and be able to adjust things if need be.
Enoy the mixer , they are fun to use.
