Go to allrecipes. com you're likely to find one there.

In fact here is one for beer battered onion rings

INGREDIENTS
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 eggs, separated
1 cup beer
4 tablespoons butter, melted
salt to taste
3 large onions, sliced into rings
2 quarts oil for frying
DIRECTIONS
Sift flour into a large bowl. In another large bowl, whisk egg yolks. Mix in beer, butter and salt. Set aside 1 cup of flour for dipping the onion rings. Slowly stir the egg yolk mixture into the remaining flour and mix well. Allow the mixture to stand 30 to 60 minutes.
Heat deep fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a small bowl, stiffly beat the egg whites. Gently combine the egg whites with the batter.
Coat each onion ring with flour and dip into batter.
Deep fry the battered rings, several at a time, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve.

Check the asian food section of the grocery for a tempura batter mix. It is the easiest way to do it yourself.

I do mine in just a spicy beer batter - flour, beer and cayenne pepper...these are really great! Or tempura batter is another great idea for onion rings...a little lighter, but still yummy!
(you can find ready to make tempura batter in the Asian section at the grocers, if you want really simple!)
Oh...and be sure not to cut the onions too thin, or all you will taste is batter!

Bit late now as your daughter would of been and gone for dinner.I would stick to shop bought ones.

you could try tempura batter. its Japanese sold in Tesco's. you put ice cold water into the packet-mix . dip in flour then the batter. instructions are easy to follow on the packet. have a trial run first I do. gud luk. my mouth is watering already!!
