How can I become a better cook?!
How can I become a better cook?
I have learned cooking from my mother and mother in law and they are both excellent cooks. But, when I duplicate their recipes, it never turns out half as good. What should I do?
Answers:
Practise Practise and more practise.
Start with easy things, to get the basics right and then with that knowledge your confidence will increase.
That will inspire you to experiment.
The other thing is to learn your oven. They are like people each one is a little different.
Take a culinary course.
You doing it from memory??
Or you got it written down.
Spend more time having them direct you
They love TELLING you what to do :~)
It takes practice to be good. They didn't learn over night.
Sometimes food tastes better when someone else makes it! Most of learning to cook comes by experience...get some cookbooks from the library, or find some food websites that you enjoy - I love food network and epicurious - and keep cooking! Experiment with new flavors and foods, and don't be afraid to change things up!
Ask them to help you make the meals and take notes. They can give you pointers and hands on experience at the same time.
Imagination and trial and error. Take a known recipe, and with a little imagination, and by adding or subtracting different spices, see if you can improve on them.
It takes time and please don't get discouraged.
Try foodtv. com for different variations of foods, and remember very often, recipes will leave something out.
Take a course, and then practice alot.
Well you could have them help you make some stuff, or go to epicurious.com. It turned my "just put something frozen in the microwave" mom into a pretty good cook. :-D
Maybe you need some recipes that are new to your family i mean my mom taught me to cook also and some things she cooks better then me and others i cook better then her and we cook them the same way. Here is a web page you might enjoy I know i do everything on there is easy to prepare and any ingredients that you need you can get off the web page also I just about cook all my families meals from there now.
