It's ok to skip the bacon. Try doing a recipe search on:

this web page has probably every bean recipe known to mankind.

Good Luck- and if they're Dried Beans, don't forget to soak them in water overnight to soften them up and help not to burn the beans.

I just did this yesterday. For every lb of beans you need to add 5 to 6 cups of water to the pot. Bring it to a boil, then rinse the beans off and add clean water. Bring them to a boil again and then add your spices. I added salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and a can of chopped stewed tomatos. Cook them until they are soft and you are done!

well, they will take some time so i hope you dont need them for tonight. rinse them well and kind of sort through them to make sure there aren't any small rocks in with them.

if you can boil them on the stove for a little bit, then let them sit and soak, this usually helps, if not just put them in the crock pot with plenty, plenty of water. (i have found that they soak up quite a bit) also, i put several cloves of garlic in mine and maybe just a little butter. cook until soft and DO NOT salt them until they are tender!

also, some people like to chop up a little bit of green pepper in them (i am not one of those people, though). anyhow, good luck.

oh, and the crock pot can go on high or low, depends on how much time you have, but you HAVE to keep an eye on the amount of water in the crack pot. do NOT let it run out.

BTW- they are "dried pintos"

Sweat in oil about:
1/2 cup of sweet onion, chopped
with 1 or more cup(s) chopped ripe tomato's or a can of them.
Add red pepper if you like.

Put this into your crock pot. Pour your washed and picked over pintos. Cover with st least 1-2 inches of water. Cook till they can be crushed between your fingers but still have some resistance.

Add 1/2 cup of chopped cilantro if you want. It really adds flavor to the beans. Continue cooking till you get the beans the consistency you desire.

Serve. In other words, PIG OUT!

Go to the store & get a package of fatback from the meat case. While you are there, get some chow-chow, green onions & the fixings for some cornbread. Soak beans overnight, discarding any floaters the next morning. Place beans in crockpot, add fatback, a few cloves of garlic, salt & pepper, 1 stick butter and enough water to cover. Cook on low 8 - 10 hours, then serve with green onions, chow-chow & fresh homemade cornbread!!

rinse them off well, place in crock pot ,add salt pepper, onion, bacon grease (optional) slow cook, they should turn out ok,no you dont have to pick out the ones that float.

I have found the best way to cook dried beans is to sort through them, rinse them well, place in pot covered with water and bring to a boil covered and boil for two minutes. Turn off the heat and let stand for one hour covered. Drain the beans and you can leave the floaters in. Place them in your crock pot with your flavorings (bay leaves, cumin, thyme, etc.) with chicken broth or other broths or even water. You will probably need to cook them on high for at least four hours and on low for at least six to eight hours but I'm guessing. Make sure to check them for doneness often.

soak them overnight pick out the ones that float then cook in the crock pot all day. they would be way better with ham hocks or bacon
