Question:

I am in college anyone have any cheap food ideas?

Mostly I just eat soup for dinner because its cheap and easy to make. I want something new!

Answers:
2 words. Ramen noodles.

ramen, mac and cheese, quesadillas

ramen noodles, mac and cheese, salads (lettuce and tomatoes don't cost much), soups, and if you go to the ethnic food isle you will see lots of meals that you just need to add water too.

nice variation on the ramen noodles would be instead of adding the flavoring at the end, strain the noodles and just leave a lil bit of water add the flavoring and its pretty good.

also instead of putting in milk and butter to your mac and cheese add a can of cream of chicken (like 88 cents) and its a lot more filling.

pasta

You might also consider the Hamburger Helper microwave packs.

Microwave rice in small plastic containers-there's a ton of flavors. The small instant potato packets-again in lots of flavors. The mini packets of tuna salad with crackers, they also have chicken salad.Chef-BoyR-Dee in the zip top cans are about a dollar a can-they have spaghetti,ravioli,spaghettios.... around in stores like Dollar General,Family Dollar,Dollar Tree, you'd be surprised what you find.

cream tuna and peas, cereal, grilled cheese and tomato soup, bean burritos, cheese crisps, omelets, hot dogs, bagels and cream cheese, salad, guacamole dip

Pasta... tuna sandwich... any kind of salad that you could make out of canned vegetables...
I also used to make pizza on normal bread...

The problem with canned soups and ramen noodles is that they are high in sodium and preservatives, while low in nutrients. Try this recipe and its many variations.

Dinner in Foil

Take a large square of aluminum foil and place one of the following in the center: boneless chicken breast, boneless pork chop, thin hamburger patty, salmon steak.

Season the salmon with one of the following: lemon pepper, garlic butter, a dash of lemon juice and butter, or soy sauce.

Season meat with one of the following: barbecue sauce, Montreal steak seasoning, teryaki sauce, or soy sauce.

Place any or all of the following vegetables around the meat or fish: a peeled and quartered potato; a few small broccoli or cauliflower florets; a peeled and sliced carrot; a few whole mushrooms; a few slivers of red onion; strips of red or green pepper.

Dot the veggies with butter, and season lightly with salt and pepper. Fold up the sides to form a tightly sealed packet. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, or until meat/fish is tender and the veggies are cooked.

You can make endless variations of the basic recipe, and the clean-up afterwards is a snap.

Ramen noodles, take-out pizza, Chinese food, TV dinners on sale, buy a bag of frozen chicken breasts & cook one at a time on a little George Foreman, frozen veggies for one, etc.....There's tons to chose from!!

I think Wolfeblayede has it!!!!

I have created many of my recipes from this exact situation. So I'll break some categories with their recipes down for you......
Micorwave only?
1. MY FAV
.... Place totinos scoops on a late. Fill with your fav salsa, grilled chicken (in the refrigerator section...already coked in bags) and mexican cheese blend. Cook on med power for like 4 minutes.....so yummy!

2. Buy some pre cooked ravioli, your fav spaghetti sauce, mozzarella, ricotta cheese, and use your pre packaged chicken again.
In a microwave safe square dish... layer the ravioli, cheeses, chicken, and sauce as many times as you want.
Cook on medium-high power for 5-7min.. and voila.... u have a ravioli/twisted lasagna casserole.
If you have an oven: so easy....
1. Pop some porkchops in an oven safe skillet with onion, white wine, chicken stalk and your fave seasonings.. cover and cook for 2 hours (perfect cause you don't have to be there) at 350... Taste like u slaved and you actually were prolly at class instead!

2. Salmon.... place on a grill (george foreman) or in the oven on a baking sheet. Top with salt, pepper, garlic salt, and honey.. cook at 350.. 5 minutes per inch of fish

Good Luck and Great cooking

Do not buy top roman! I spent a 100 dollars on top roman when I moved out on my own.I spent months eating top roman. It was awful.I can not even look at it to this day.Do you like beans and cornbread. It is a very cheap meal that is good for at least 3 meals.Another one pork roast with carrots, and potatoes.Good for at least 3 meals.Make a pot of homemade chilli, good for 3 meals. You could buy breakfast food like eggs, sausage, bacon and have breakfast for dinner. That is a cheap way to go.

I ate lots and lots of sandwiches, Ramen, and Chef Boyardee in college. I also got a George Foreman grill for hot dogs, burgers, bacon, grilled cheese..... The possibilities are endless.
