Ziti pasta - what shape is it and is there a substitute?!

Question:

Ziti pasta - what shape is it and is there a substitute?

I have a recipe that calls for ziti pasta and I can't find it. Is there any acceptable substitute? What size and shape is it? Is it like lasagna noodles or more like a curly noodle? Thanks!

Answers:
Ziti are about 2 inches long and are hollow, you can almost fit a pencil inside. They are also cut straight or perpendicular to the pasta, imagine a small hose cut every two inches. Penne are very similar but are cut on the diagonal or bias, they have also grown in popularity, over the past few years.

A medium-sized, tubular pasta shape,

i would sub for 100% whole wheat pasta....you cant taste a difference and it 100% better for you

Its a tubular hollow pasta. You can use rigatoni...or any similar heavy pastas. A spiral pasta would work too.

you can pretty much use any pasta you want..... it just all depends on which one you want and the amount of time you have to cook it.. Zitis like penne, and rigatoni take longer to cook! good luck !
