Baking with five year olds - any ideas on easy recipes?!

Question:

Baking with five year olds - any ideas on easy recipes?

Fun ideas to amuse the grandchildren or no-bake cakes would be ideal.

Answers:
chocolate rice crispie cakes. They don't take long so they won't get bored, not too much clearing up either.

Chocolate cornflakes nests and stick little choc eggs in them. Or use rice crispies to form bricks and build a house.

with little kids cookies is always a hit

Flapjacks are easy too. Or buy some ready made cookies and decorate them with smarties, chocolate dots, icing sugar or sprinkles to make faces. Cheesecake is another no bake idea.

one layer biscuits, one layer whipped cream, and then strawberries, then biscuits again, then cream then pineapple then biscuits then cream then bananas, and then biscuits and cream and Smarties on the top ... all of it in a pan, and then to the freezer ... PERFECT!

choclotate rice krispe or cornflakes cakes,

why are you baking with children? i think murder is illegal

Sugar cookies.

The Recipe
1 1/2 cups sugar
2/3 cup shortening or butter*
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 1/4 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
Early in the day or the day before:
In a large bowl cream the shortening and the sugar. Add the eggs, extract, and milk. In a medium bowl mix the dry ingredients with a wire whisk. Add the dry ingredients to the large bowl. Mix with mixer until well combined. With hands, shape dough into a ball. Wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly grease cookie sheets. Roll** half or 1/3 dough at a time, keep the rest refrigerated. For crisp cookies, roll dough, paper thin. For softer cookies, roll 1/8 " to 1/4" thick.
With floured cookie cutter, cut into shapes. Re-roll trimmings and cut.
Place cookies 1/2 inch apart on cookie sheets. Decorate*** Bake 8 minutes or until very light brown. With pancake turner, remove cookies to racks; cool. Makes about 6 dozen cookies.

*I've found that if you want "sturdy and tasty" cookies you should use 1/2 shortening and 1/2 butter. Shortening makes cookies sturdy and butter makes them tasty.

rice crispy cakes. just need cooking choc and the rice crisps. just melt the choc and add the rice crispy dish into paper cups and it sets can add hundred and thousands etc, no baking.

Flap jacks can be made in a very similar way with sugar honey etc.

what about choc fruit, melt choc (cooking choc) then dip in their fruit of choice (apples, berry's strawberries are THE BEST!!) and cover with hundreds and thousands etc and let set it fridge the choc goes crispy it is so nice!!!

Bread! They LOVE bashing the dough - you could then make it into individual pizza bases for them to eat afterwards!

Make fruit kebabs. Everyone can get to do a bit of chopping - easily done with normal eating knives. The bright colours appeal to children and it doesn't involve anything hot. AND it's healthy into the bargain! You could try buying some slightly unusual fruits they might not be familiar with - make it a learning experience for them.
Whatever you choose to do - have FUN.

I like to buy the ready prepared cookie dough in the biscuit aisle & then cut or just roll into the size & shape wanted. I let the kids decorate with chocolate chips, m& m's colored sugar etc. I give each one a work station of wax paper for easy clean up & no more he's in my space arguing. Hope you enjoy whatever you make.

cookies are easy to make. my 6 year old loves making them.

350g margarine
300g sugar (granulated)
500g self raising flour

preheat oven to gas 4
mix all ingredients together
roll into thick sausage shape
will make 20 cookies
cook for 10/15 mins

you can add chocolate drops, cherries or my sons favourite................ smarties!!

go to the bakery and buy some cakes or buns, most kids like sweets or Lolly's works a treat. or give them a cereal bar and tell them there is loads of sugar in them and they will love it..

you could decorate some pre bought biscuits with icing sugar and sweeties or fruit, no oven involved!

If you have a blender - fruit smoothies. Buy some strawberries, apple, mango...whatever you like (or let 5YO pick her own favourite fruits). You also need either some juice or some yoghurt to bulk it up. Kids love throwing the ingredients in and holding the button down to mash it all together. And its even good for them!

in sainsburys theres some biscuits like ginger bread men that they can decorate i got them for my niece and she loved them !
