Side dish for my oven fried chicken?!


Question:

Side dish for my oven fried chicken?

I'm making oven fried chicken lite (not as unhealthy as frying in a pan) for my bf's family cookout this weekend. What would be a good side dish recipe to pair with my chicken? Also, any websites where I can pick and choose a side dish would be helpful......btw, I'm a new cook - but I can follow most recipes w/ good instructions.

what do you all think of this one? or no? what are 'new potatos'

New potatoes are the little thin skinned potatoes in the Produce dept.

That one you linked looks good, here is another you might like...

Picnic Pasta Salad

1 package (16 ounces) rotini pasta( can use tri-color also)
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1 cup Italian dressing(can use Zesty Italian)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil leaves or 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
1 Teaspoon chopped Parsley
1 clove of Garlic minced( can use garlic powder)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano leaves or 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms (3 ounces)
5 roma (plum) tomatoes, coarsely chopped (1 1/2 cups)
1 large cucumber, coarsely chopped (1 1/2 cups)
1 medium red onion, chopped
1 can (2 1/4 ounces) sliced ripe olives, drained
Salt and Pepper to taste

Cook the Pasta as directed on package. In a seperate bowl mix all other ingredients/ Add Pasta(after drained) and toss well. Cover and refridgerate for 2 hours to enhance the flavors.

I think that recipe sounds good! Why not just add some nice steamed broccoli with it?
or maybe, since you already have the oven on, try this
Colorful Oven Roasted Veggies
Ingredients:
1/3 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
3 cups cauliflowerets
2 cups broccoli florets
6 medium carrots, julienned
3 small onions, quartered


Directions:

Place butter in a shallow 3 qt. baking dish; place in a 400F oven for 5 minutes or until melted.

Stir in thyme, salt and pepper. Add the vegetables and toss to coat.

Cover and bake for 25-30 minutes or until vegetables are crisp-tender.

new potatos are recently harvested not stored for ages....usually picked at smaller sizes. The skin is a lot more tender

SIDEDISH...Cucumber salad
slice :
cukes
thin purple onion to taste
cover with olive oil and wine vinegar
add onion salt ( not too much) & pepper

it is so fresh tasting and it always looks good and is heat tolerant

Mac-n- cheese, green beans and cornbread! yum yum!

u could make mac and cheese, a pasta salad.... or potatoe salad.... new potatoes are small just go to the market or produce place and u will see em

Okay, if you're from up north you probably won't try this one, but here goes.

Take a bag of frozen mustard greens (NOT CANNED)
cook by directions on bag. Season the greens with bacon, or for a more healthy approach, use olive oil. Per bag use about 3 Tbs of Garlic Salt, & pepper to taste. Also add two Tbs of minced garlic, you can buy this in the fresh produce section of most grocery stores already choped in jars, & it's cheap. I usually cook them for at least an hour to tender them.

Make some rice.
Standard recipe for rice is one part rice to two parts water.
one cup of uncooked rice will feed four people.

Bring rice to a boil, & as soon as it starts to boil cut the heat down to low & cover. Let this cook for 20 min. It will be perfect evey time.

Now in a large enough container mix the greens in with the rice.

Always taste. If it needs more garlic salt, add to taste.

This is a great side dish for chicken. You have your greens as well as your starch, & it is tasty as well.

Oh, by the way, new potatoes are just baby potatoes of any variety. They are called new because the are new, not fully grown. Always small, & usually white with thin skin.

For these recipes calling for new potatoes, I like the small red potatoes. They are the same size, but have better flavor.

everyone who tries it loves it.
1 bag frozen hash browns / cubed or shredded
1 stick butter
1 16oz sour cream
1 16 oz shredded Cheddar
1 can Campbell's cream of chicken or mushroom
corn flakes.
pour hash browns in 9x13 baking pan
pour half stick melted butter over them
mix together sour cream, soup, cheese and spread over top of potatoes.
sprinkle cornflakes over top, cover completely and pour remaining butter
bake at 350 for about 30 to 45 min. until cornflakes are Golden brown mmmmmmm enjoy

mac chesese peas

This is my absolute favorite. Cucumbers and onions - sliced thinly.

Mix may and white vinegar in a bottle that you can shake up. More mayo than vinegar - you want it really runny, but not watery. Then you add some sugar until it tastes good. The sugar takes the big time kick of the vinegar. It should have a little bit to it, but i love it!

new poatoes are baby potatoes- small and softer.
i would boil some corn on the cob and serve with miricle whip to slather on and a cajun or hot red pepper powder to sprinkle on top. This is how they make it on the streets of mexico city! yummy!
i'd also serve a nice easy salad- dark greens with diced tomatoes, avocado, cucumber, mushrooms, red pepper, with some balsamic viegar and black pepper sprinkeld on top. toss and serve- so easy and soo yummy...

how about a side of shut the hell up?
