Steaming: First, you need to tie a bundle of asparagus spears together with kitchen string, just under the tips and also near the bottom, making sure the bottom ends are level. Place the bundle in a tall pot of 2 inches of boiling water, unless you have your very own asparagus steamer. Cover and steam for 5-8 minutes, depending on the thickness of the spears. While the ends of the asparagus are being boiled, the tips are actually being steamed. The end result should be bright green, crisp yet tender spears.
Boiling: Lay the asparagus spears in a large skillet with about an inch of water. Boil for up to 5 minutes, depending on thickness of the spears.
Blanching: If you are using the asparagus in salads or for other cold dishes, plunging the boiled or steamed asparagus in cold or iced water as soon as they are done immediately stops the cooking process and helps preserve the color and crispness of the asparagus.
Microwaving: Lay asparagus in a microwave-safe baking dish, with tips towards the center.
Add about a 1/4 cup of water; cover and microwave for 4-5 minutes. Roasting: Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Lay asparagus on a baking sheet. Drizzle with a tablespoon of olive oil. Roast for 8-10 minutes.
Stir Frying: Cut spears diagonally into 1 1/2 inch to 2-inch pieces, and stir fry with a teaspoon of sesame or olive oil for 3 minutes.
Roasting: Place asparagus on a baking sheet coated with nonstick cooking spray and roast in a preheated 450 degree oven for about 10-15 minutes, depending on thickness of the spears. Or, instead of using cooking spray, drizzle a little olive oil over the asparagus before roasting.
Grilling: Place asparagus spears on a preheated (medium-high heat) grill sprayed with olive oil spray and cook for about 5-8 minutes until tender, turning occasionally. Good luck...

simply steam it for about 4 mins, serve with vinagraitte and fresh parmesan..........delicious.
the classic way is to steam them and serve them with holandaise sauce.
Other way is to stir fry them and add other vegetables, soy sauce and sesame oil.
You can marinate them in balsamic vinegar and grill them. They taste delicious!
i put a little olive iol, salt, and pepper and either grill it or roast in in the oven. 450 degrees for about 10 minutes, or a little more (depending on thickness). yummmmmm.
I usually cut off a bit of the ends and steam them until they are still just a bit firm. Then I melt butter on the stove and drip the butter over the spears and then sprinkle w/ fresh Papagena cheese
We love to have it with dinner and cut the bottoms off and put olive oil, garlic, and pepper in a dish and let them sit in the fridge for as long as you'd like and then sautee them in a pan but not until they're mush - I like them a bit more on the al dente side. You can also use the same base and grill them.
With a nice, warm Bernaise Sauce and thinly sliced Parma Ham!
Our favorite way is cover in olive oil, salt, pepper, wrap in tin foil and throw it on the grill for about 5 minutes. Depending on my mood, sometimes I'll throw it directly on the grill and skip the tin foil...this is to die for. You'll love it!
you can do just about anything with asparagus. hollandaise is classical, or with chopped hard boiled eggs and red wine vinaigrette, is also very classical. you can do tempura. I find it very tasty on pizza. use your imagination.
I like to put them in a big saute pan with a little olive oil, a splash of teriyaki, a splash of soy and some crushed fresh garlic. I saute them over medium heat until they are just a little soft on the outside but not mushy and there is still a bit of crunch to them.
drizzle with olive oil , ground black pepper, salt...then wrap with bacon ....then grill till bacon is crispy...they are delish...people that don`t like asparagus become lovers of mine after they eat this....good luck
It is not very healthy but my favorite way to eat asparagus is to fry it.
Coat the asparagus in flour and cook in a frying pan with some vegetable oil until the flour turn a golden brown.
Place on some paper towels to soak up some of the oil then sprinkle on some salt.
Make sure to let them cool for a few minutes they are way to hot to eat right away.
