Should I use double cream after the best before date if looks/smells alright ?
Without dying.
Answers:
I have done in the past. If it smells ok I taste a tiny bit just to be sure and if it tastes ok then I use it. It hasn't killed me yet!
I would finger dip it. If it tastes fine- go for it.
Ye I would and have with stuff like yogurt..........just don't do it with meat!
Yes! It would smell for sure if it was off.
Taste it first. If it tastes OK, it is OK.
They put sell by dates on things for a reason so i wouldnt if i were you.
NO NO NO NO, it is put there for a reason, if the date has expired there is a good chance that you`ll open yourself up for food poisoning............
Oh and you cannot taste toxins, toxins form with a hard outer shell, dissolve in the gut where they multiply and give you food poisoning. These toxins will be present if the food is out of date, although it may taste alright, 90% of food poisonings go unreported....
Yes as long as it smells ok dont worry!!!
why not!?! lol if it likes and smells alright then whats there to worry about?
Taste a little bit. If it tastes fine go ahead.
Best Before: Quality is guaranteed up until that date. Afterwards it cannot be guaranteed. Best before is often used as a guide for retailers to know when they should sell it by, in order that a customer enjoy it.
However, Use By is different. It means just that.If it's past the use by date- Don't do it!
The "Best Before" date means that it is fresh to sell till that date.
So, if properly refrigerated you should have several days to use it past that sell date.
Still, take the advice of others. Smell it, taste it, and go from there.
My money is on it being good to use.
why do they put dates on vinegar and alcohol etc, arent they preservatives????
The date is only a recommendation. Best before is equal to the sell-by-date. That just means that it may not be sold after this date, because it is taken into consideration that the customers store it for a day or two before consuming the product. If the cream was sealed, then it is still good and edible. I find that whipping cream is good for two weeks after the date, and it whips much better than fresh cream.
