Do I have to cover my cake?!
Do I have to cover my cake?
I'm making a boxed cake shaped like a volcano for my daughter's luau birthday party on Sat.
2 questions:
1.) Do I have to cover the cake after I frost it? I don't have a cake cover that will fit over it, and don't want to ruin the frosting. (The frosting is also just regular store bought in the can.)
2.) When is the soonest I can make it? If I make/frost it today, will it stay ok for Sat.'s party?
Answers:
If you make the cake and frost it you have to cover it or the frosting dries out and it becomes hard.
Bake the cake and cover it with plastic wrap and make time Saturday am to frost it.
You want to keep it as fresh as possible. I've had refrigerated cake before and it's terrible.
You can make it today but it should be covered or the iceing will get all dry and crumbly. Try being inventive find a box big enough to cover the cake maybe.
Bake and assemble the cake today, and don't frost until Saturday.
You don't have to cover the cake if it is going to be in a clean environment.
It sould be ok if you make it on a Friday and serve it on a Saturday. Make it late in the day.
If the party is in the afternoon or evening you could make it in the morning.
You only need to cover it after you cut it. However if you are want to bake the cake ahead until you can decorate, either refrigerate or freeze the cake ahead of time unfrosted, then frost and decorate.
I would bake the cake today and cover with plastic wrap to keep moist . although it may be inconvenient, frost it the day you are serving it . you'll be much happier with the results.
no..the frosting will get hard if you don't cover it..and it will be stale..you really should make it approx 6 hours ahead of time
Bake the cake today or Friday, and frost it the morning of the party. If you wish to/need to cover a cake (any shape) after frosting and don't have a cake cover, just stick a few toothpicks on and around the cake before wrapping to keep the plastic wrap from sticking to the icing. That "tents" it away from the cake.
I reccomend baking the cake Friday evening and frosting it Saturday morning. Your cake will be just fine if it remains uncovered, but the frosting will go hard and taste dry.
You don't HAVE to cover the cake but its best if you fo. If you don't it will get dried out, hard, and stale. It should be fine for the party but I would wait until Friday for the freshest taste.
