Mashed Potatoes......?!

Question:

Mashed Potatoes......?

Better to use Electric Mixer or the Hand thingie

Answers:
You'll get them smoother with an electric mixer....

i say use the hand thingie....

Hi !!!
I say Electric Mixer!
I have made them both ways, I just like the smoothness of the potatoes that are beaten...My potatoes have always whipped up nicely.

I found this info on a website...

Whipping
was the only method that got rid of the chunks,
but it also tended to turn the potatoes a bit gluey.
Smashing the potatoes up a little by hand before
whipping helped reduce the whipping time (and
corresponding gluey texture), and using the paddle
attachment rather than the whip attachment also
helped. Working with the paddle, we noted that it
was best to beat just half of the cooked potatoes on
high speed, then slowly add the remaining potatoes
until all the clumps were gone and the potatoes
were uniformly smooth. Lastly, we found that stirring
the cream and butter into the beaten potatoes
by hand, rather than in the mixer, ensured that the
mash would not be gluey.

Whichever you like. The hand-held one is easier to clean.

electric if you like smooth

If you like lumpy, the hand masher. If you like smooth, the Electric.

You can use either, depending on what kind of texture you want. The electric mixer will give them a more "whipped" texture, like you would get at a resturaunt. I like them better this way, but you have to be careful, because if you over-whip them with the electric mixer, they will become very starchy. They will still taste okay, but the texture may not be as appealing. I believe that the red potatoes with thin skin (sorry, can't remember what they're called) are one of the best potatoes for using the electric mixer.

I use my kitchen-aid mixer. I think it's harder with the hand mixer.

I have a friend who actually uses her blender.

I know it's terrible, but sometimes I like box mashed potatoes better than made from scratch. I have a recipe that includes sour cream, cream cheese and then baked in oven with cheddar cheese on top!

Awesome stuff.

it is better to use a hand whip for potatoes, because an electric whip will over mix them.

electric : it beats them better and they come out creamy
unless you want a kinda chunk mashed potatoes then use the hand thingie

I prefer the "Hand Thingie"

either will do but for best results you the mixer less lumps

I like mine to have lumps so I use the Hand Thangie!!!!!!!!
If you like them smooth and lump free use the electric mixer.
I don't like them smooth because it makes me think I am eating the Instant Potatoes, YUK.

Use the hand masher. It is harder but gives much better control.

Right befoer mashing, try throwing in either some garlic salt instead of regular salt, or some smoked gouda cheese (chopped into very small peices) and a splash of extra milk/cream. Both are great additions.

I always use the hand masher, but I also like my mashed potatoes to be a little lumpy. If you use the mixer they are more whipped and usually no lumps.
