I need a unique Salad recipe for a bar-b-q. Do you know of any?
I was told to bring a unique, creative salad to my family bar-b-q. I need something easy, good, and ingredients you wouldn't expect. I have been searching online forever and can't find anything. I need more of a side dish salad then a dessert salad. Do you have a good recipe?
Answers:
I have a great one. And it can be served at room temp, no danger of spoiling, so no need to stress with crock-pots or ice chests. It's fun, creative, and versatile- it can be served as a salad or a dip with tortilla chips... Super yummy!!!

Anti-Pasta Salad
a large jar of marinated artichoke hearts
calmatra olives
fresh bella mushrooms
grape tomatoes
feta cheese (seasoned black pepper)
The oil from the artichokes is sufficient enough so just mix everything together and let it marinade in the refrigerator for a couple hours.
This fruity green salad works every time. I went to 3 bbq's this past holiday and took this with me; at each one, at lease two people asked me for the recipe. The way everything melds together gives the salad such a unique flavor. Have fun with it.
Oh, and if you ever want to make it an entree salad, add some chicken strips on top.
INGREDIENTS
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 tablespoon water
1/2 cup blanched slivered almonds
1 head leaf lettuce - rinsed, dried and torn into bite-size pieces
1 head romaine lettuce - rinsed, dried, and torn into bite-size pieces
2 bananas, peeled and sliced
1 avocado - pitted, peeled, and cubed
2 (11 ounce) cans mandarin oranges, drained
1 red onion, thinly sliced
1 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup distilled white vinegar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds
DIRECTIONS
Stir together water and sugar in a skillet over medium heat. Add the slivered almonds, toss to coat, and cook and stir until the almonds are brown. Remove from heat.
In a large bowl, gently toss together the almonds, lettuce, avocado, orange segments and onion, and set aside.
In a small bowl, whisk together the oil, honey, salt, vinegar, mustard and poppy seeds. Pour over the salad mixture and toss to coat.
Judy's Oriental Salad
This recipe is from a family friend. It is an awesome Oriental Salad that is delicious and it has Top Ramen in it...how bad can that be, right?
Ingredients for Dressing:
1/2 C sugar
1/4 C vinegar
1/2 C oil
2-3 tsp. soy sauce
Mix together and refrigerate. Make sure the sugar has disolved.
Ingredients for topping:
1/2 stick butter or margarine
1 pkg Top Ramen noodles crushed (do not use seasoning packet)
1/8 C sesame seeds
1/2 C slivered almonds
Melt butter/margarine, add Top Ramen noodles, almonds and sesame seeds. Stir and brown lightly. Drain on paper towel.
For the salad use iceberg and leafy lettuce combination, and chopped green onion, if desired (I recommend the onions).
Just before serviing toss greens with dressing and sprinkle with topping. Add some mandarin oranges too if you want, they taste yummy with this.
If you have topping left you can store in an airtight container.
