Recipe for Cabbage "Cake" thingy?!

Question:

Recipe for Cabbage "Cake" thingy?

Hubby fondly remembers Granny cooking cabbage and then pressing it into a "cake" with a plate and serving it in slices. Anyone know how this is done?

Apparently it consists of only boiled cabbage and butter. It's not Bubble & Squeak - we have that on a regular basis. Oh, and love the other recipe, but remember this was his ENGLISH Grandmother (she was born in the late 1890's) and thought that olive oil was only good for ear-ache. It's probably not that healthy either.

It's only that he has a milestone birthday coming up and I would like to cook this for him, as a romantic gesture!!

I have recipe but not sure if its the same thing. But sounds like the same idea. Try it, its not that bad.

1. Take a medium sized cabbage
2. Put some olive oil in a skillet
3. Add some 0nions, garlic and ginger (depends on how mush spicy you like it to be.)
4. Add the cabbage
5. Add some tabasco and bbq sauce, about q teaspoonfull each.
6. Cover and cook for 10 minutes
7. Add some peas and carrots
8. Put the cabbage in a large oven proof dish and mis about 1/2 cup margarine with the cabagge and press it right
9. On a separate bowl take 2 cups of flour, 1 tea spoon of bakin powder, 1 egg and 1/2 cup milk. Make a dough. If too thick to mix add some more milk. Add salt
10. Cover the veggies with some cheese (about 2/3 mm) and then add the dough on top. Make the layer a maximum of 1 cm.
11. Put it in the over at 350F for about 20 minutes(or till the top crust is done)
12. Use the toothpick/fork technique to see if the crust is done.
13. Make sure to take the pie out of the oven after 10 mints it has been cooked and make some holes on the top.

ENJOY

Sounds like bubble and squeak to me. Try that and see if it is what he remembers. I know you can brown it into a cake.
