What to feed a picky 15-month old and 4-year old?!

Question:

What to feed a picky 15-month old and 4-year old?

I've recently gained 2 step-children (15-month old girl and 4 year old boy) and I've never been much of a "cook." I want to be helpful to my husband and fix dinner every night for him and the kids but I don't have the first clue what to fix. I can do spagetti! I'm clueless about cooking meats. On top of the fact that i haven't cooked much, the kids are pretty picky (as am i!). Please help me with ideas for meals to fix for my new family!

Also, is it safe for the 15 month old to eat all kinds of meat, as long as its cut in small pieces? She only has a few teeth.

Oh yea - the 15-month old has to feed herself. She won't let anyone spoon feed her and she can't yet do it herself. So it has to be stuff she can pick up. Kind of cuts out the soups and some casseroles. She has a blast with the spagetti :)

I have the pickiest children...for them its more of a visual when they see me cooking the meat or adding spices they are not sure of that freaks them out more.

When it comes to chicken, I buy at my deli in my grocery store the hot premade chicken rotissorie..THEY will eat this forever..but if I did the same in my house..they won't eat it.

I think its seeing things in the RAW form that freak them out.

Also making pasta noodles with no sauce is a biggy in my house and white rice that I make in rice cooker..just add rice and water and it cooks itself.

All over the internet there are kids recipes, I suggest you try out some of those. My kids are somewhat picky too, so I know what you are going through. As for cooking meat, you can't go wrong with baking it, and the spice packs they sell at the grocery store are pretty fool proof. Invest in a meat thermometer if you are worried about not cooking it well enough. Good luck to you.

Mac and cheese, corn on cob with butter, english muffin pizza, peanut butter on crackers, Mccain's frozen smiley fries, sherbert.

Having little ones you cant cook any little finger foods like chicken nuggets, fish stickes, or hot dogs & hambugers and french fries

I would check out familyfun.com also if you have time I might check into takeing a cooking class.

My 3 year old loves spaghetti, Pizza, Chicken nuggets, ceaser salad, Hot dogs. Maybe get the 4year old involved

Something really simple we have done before is cream cheese and strawberry jelly sandwhiches vut into different shapes, they are yummy and healthy

I don't know if this helps. My 9 month old grand-daughter was always fed baby food, but we gave her a turkey wing. She would not let go of it! (Yes, we watched for bones.) She could not get enough of it! In fact, when the kids left, the mother asked if we had another wing for the trip. They didn't think she was ready for grown-up foods. So you'll be amazed at what kids will like. We just fed her whatever we ate. She loved it! Which is what our parents did to both my husband and I. Good luck!

When my kids were young I made lots of casseroles.
They liked them because they were easy to eat.
2 cans of Tuna
one package of noodles, partially cooked
cream of mushroom or celery soup
a soup can of milk
some spices like onion and garlic powder
put it in a casserole and bake 40-45 minutes at 350 degrees.
sprinkle some shredded cheddar cheese on top
my mother used to sprinkle crushed potato chips on top.

Souped up Rice:
Put in a sauce pan:
A can of chicken noodle soup
a soup can of water
heat to boiling and put in
a soup can of instant rice
put the lid on for 5 minutes, then stir.
Good and simple.

Macaroni and cheese.
Make a box of Kraft mac and cheese and add some cut up velveeta. That makes it taste so much cheesier.

You can make any casserole:
meat
pasta
sauce
bake it
experiment, it is fun.

grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, pb&j, mac and cheese, spagetti, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, pancakes, bananas, apples, stuff like that.
