Need home recipe for Funnel Cakes.?!

Question:

Need home recipe for Funnel Cakes.?

Have tried recipes on the web and they are all different and many are nasty once you have finished the project. Does someone have a granny recipe? Thank you.

Answers:
I make funnel cakes and fried twinkies for my little cousins during fourth of July all the time. I used a homemade pancake recipe that my grandmother gave me for a couple of years and then tried this recipe from Paula Dean. It tasted better and I've been using it ever since. Good Baking!!

2 cups milk
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) melted butter
Powdered sugar, for topping

Combine milk, egg, vanilla in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, baking soda, and sugar and gradually add to wet ingredients. Beat with a mixer until a smooth batter forms. Fold in melted butter. Pour batter into a funnel or squeeze bottle while using your index finger to stop the flow of the batter. Bring the funnel over the hot oil and release your finger to start a stream of batter while moving the funnel in a circular motion to create spiral-like shapes. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown and slightly puffed. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Funnel Cake Recipe

1 cup water
3/4 stick butter (6 tablespoons)
1 tablespoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
1 cup eggs, about 4 large eggs and 2 whites
Vegetable oil, for frying
Powdered sugar, for topping

Boil water, butter, sugar, and salt together in a saucepan. Add flour and work it in until it is all incorporated and dough forms a ball. Transfer mixture to the bowl of a standing mixer and let cool for 3 to 4 minutes. With mixer lowest speed, add eggs, 1 at a time, making sure the first egg is completely incorporated before continuing. Once all eggs have been added and mixture is smooth, put dough in a piping bag fitted with a number 12 tip. Heat about 1 1/2 inches of oil in a heavy pan. Pipe dough into oil, making a free-form lattice pattern; cook until browned, flipping once. Remove cake from oil, drain on paper towels, and top with powdered sugar. Continue until all of the batter is used.

These are the BEST funnel cakes I've ever tried.

light and fluffy

Great recipe. The funnel cakes come out very light and not greasy. They did not come out as crisp as we would have likes. I am not sure if it's the recipe or how we are cooking it. (i.e. is our oil hot enough)

Once again hits the nail right on the cranium! Great Funnel Cakes and fun to make. Only thing missing is someone else to make them so I can eat them all!

WONDERFUL!!!!

this is a great recipie!!!!

Easy recipe to make. Tasted great with some powdered sugar sprinkled on top...i'm thinking some berry syrup would have taken it to top of the charts.

AWESOME

This recipe is awesome, my wife and children have a ball making it and of cours EATING it. I through in a tsp. of Bourban Vanilla Extract before adding the egg whites.

Perhaps Too Good

This was perhaps the best funnel cake I've ever eaten. The batter fried up light, and not at all greasy. It might actually be too good in that it's so easy, and requires no odd ingredients (i.e. it's possilbe to make this at a moments notice).

very tasty reciepe!

Trickey but worth it!!!

This is an easy and awesome dessert. The trickey part comes in flipping the cake. I think when I do it again, I'll make the cakes small so they are easier to flip for a beginner. Also the tip I used on the bag wasn't big enough, so the batter had a hard time coming through. When you put the batter in the pan of hot oil you need to do it quickly in small batches to make it easier the first time. But trust me this is a great dessert.

This wonderfully easy recipe is so simple and tasty that it makes staying home and not going to the ballpark very worth it!

i just love the way he made this it made me wanna jump through the tv just because it looked really good

these were quick and easy and AWESOME

If you like fried batter, these are wonderful. Can't say they are calorie but for a splurg, couldn't beat them.

looks like a very tasteful type of dish of a dessert or as a kid would say of a meal cause thats probably all they would eat.

This recipe was a fun and easy one to do. I hope other people enjoy as much as me.

this was great. better than the fair

i thought that this was the most fun and easy recipe

This is a great desert for those that love amusement park funnel cake. Children and adults alike just loved this tasty treat. The second time I made it, as an additionial topper I had both plain and chocolate whip cream and I sauted some frozen mixed berries as for a fruit topping.

Perfect and fun to do with the kids

Love this recipe!!! It was easy and fun to make. I will definately make these along with some homemade lemonade and feel like i'm at my own private carnival!

These funnel cakes are awesome! Light and crispy, but not greasy. Wonderful with powdered sugar on top. It's so easy to make and with common ingredients that I always have on hand. Now I never have to go to the fair or carnival ever again!

This recipie is so simple and it tases great. I like to make it on either a Saturday or Sunday morning as a breakfast treat by topping it with strawberry jam and powdered sugar or for a dessert treat by topping it with melted chocolate chips and sometimes a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It's a very versatile treat and can be "personalized" to fit anybody's tastes.

There is not nearly enough sugar in the dough recipe. I completely agree with the previous reviewer that all the flavor comes from the sugar on top. I will make this again, but add more sugar to the dough next time. One tip: it's easiest to flip the cakes with spring loaded tongs. They don't damage them, and there's less oil sprayed around.

Out of all the recipes for funnel cakes I've tried, this one proves to be the most tedious and least flavorful, especially when you're not depending on the powdered sugar to add to the taste.

I had been looking for a funnel cake recupe for forever, and I finally found it! Yay! This makes my whole life worth living. And to think, I was about to throw myself off of a bridge....hmmm....well, i'm glad I didn't.

I love funnel cakes! They are so great. I buy funnel cakes at Lake Winnie every time I go there, but now that I have the recipe for it, I now can make it any time I want, and I save more money now by making them myself. *Thanks alot*

This recipes was easy, quick and very affordable. I had never worked with choux pastry before and it was no problem. Delicious.

I have made funnel cakes by scratch and it tasted just like pancake batter. So I would just use pancake batter..

Fair Funnel Cakes:

25 min 20 min prep
4 servings

3 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups whole milk
3 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder

1. Beat together eggs and sugar. Add milk slowly and beat. Add all dry ingredients, beat until smooth. Pour batter in a funnel--hold the hole closed w/ your finger. Next, remove finger and create designs while pouring it into the hot oil. BE VERY CAREFUL! (2 inches of oil). Turn onto.
2. other side until both sides are golden brown. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle w/ powdered sugar. We also like to add cinnamon as well.
3. Yummy!
4. PS -- I highly recommend you make a double batch!
