Seasoning substitutes?
I have a receipe that calls for paprika and cayenne pepper, but I don't have any. Is there anything I can use as a substitute? Also, it calls for onion powder, but I only have minced onions. Is that ok?

cayenne pepper & paprika - red chile powder (don't confuse with chili powder, a mixed seasoning) OR paprika (milder) OR red pepper flakes OR chili powder (contains other spices)
onion powder - 1 tbsp dried minced onion = 1 med chopped onion; 1 tsp onion powder = 1 med chopped onion
Instead of paprika and cayenne pepper...ummm...you could probably get away with using cumin and a fresh serrano pepper. Or perhaps some jerk seasoning if you have it. Onions are onions...dont worry about that.
Yes, for the cayenne pepper & paprika - see if you have any bbq seasoning in the cabinet, or a spicy chicken or steak seasoning if you don't. The minced onions will be fine, just don't use quite as much because they will release more flavor when they are cooked........Good luck!!
Use regular pepper - maybe a smidge of chilli powder if you have it.
The onions will only affect the texture so mince them up as small as you can.
Remember - recipes are only suggestions - use your own experience and taste to judge.

Paprika is a mild pepper. Any other mild pepper will do, but it will taste different. Cayenne is a strong pepper. Any other strong pepper will do. Ditto as to taste.
Minced onions will add the same flavor in the right proportions, but they will also add moisture. Cut back a teaspoon or even a tablespoon of the water, if you can.
Paprika seldom adds much flavor but is used primarily to add color to a dish or a sauce. As for Cayenne pepper that adds heat to the dish. For instance if you were using both in a chili. Your chili wouldn't be very red nor spicy hot but it would definitely taste like chili from the chili powder, cumin, and or garlic and onion. Omit both if necessary and don't worry about it. Your dish will just be mild.
minced onion would be fine in general of course i have no idea what you are cooking you can get away with out useing paprika replace the cayenne pepper with pepper sauce like tobasco watch out you don't use to much you can always use more but you cant't take to much away
The cayenne pepper is what makes it cajun fried chicken and not just regular fried chicken. Paprika is used for color when you dredge fried chicken and onion for flavor.
You can make regular fried chicken without any of them. Just flour salt and pepper.
Ingredients used to dredge chicken for frying need to be dry as opposed to whole and wet.
Any dry powdered seasoning can be added to the flour that you dredge the chicken in.
