Jello "poke" cake topping?!

Question:

Jello "poke" cake topping?

My sister loves the Jello poke cake, so I was going to make it for her (The cake where you poke holes into it and pour jello over it and allow it to set up). The last time I had it we used a tub of plain cool whip as the topping. I liked this, but thought it was a little plain. Since then I have read that you can used cool whip mixed with sour cream OR cool whip mixed with instant pudding. Has anyone tried any of these alternatives and, if so, how did it turn out?

Cool Whip plain is the best. Just embellish the top with fresh fruit. Whatever fruit flavored Jello, use the same fruit. Or add new fruits for a more fruity flavor.

Strawberries are great. Pinnaple rings. Peaches. Blue Berries.

Or try the flavored whip cream. They have chocolate and strawberry flavored whip cream now.

Just some ideas.

ps. One of my favorite cakes!!!

Hi !!
I made that cake using real homemade whipped cream & pudding mix & it was absloutely fantastic!

**You can use "Cool Whip" if you wanted to, but I like the taste of real whipped cream better...ENJOY!!!

*I just looked up my recipe, so here it is & once again, the frosting was terriffic!

Dreamsicle Cake

This combination of orange and vanilla will remind you of those dreamsicle/creamsicle ice cream bars that most of us will fondly remember. Great as a birthday cake for all ages!

12 servings 55 min 15 min prep

1 (18 ounce) package yellow cake mix
3 eggs
1 cup orange juice
1/4 cup oil
2 (3 ounce) packages orange flavor gelatin, divided
3/4 cup boiling water
1 cup cold water
1 (3 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding (no cook type)
1 cup heavy whipping cream
3 tablespoons powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350°F.
Prepare cake mix as directed on package, using eggs, orange juice and oil.
Spray 13X9" with baking spray and add cake batter.
Bake at 350°F for 30-40 minutes, until cake springs back when touched and starts to pull away from sides of pan.
Cool cake completely on wire rack.
Using a wooden chopstick, or something similar, poke small holes all over the cake, going right to the bottom of pan.
In a small bowl, place 1 box orange gelatin. Pour boiling water over gelatin and stir until gelatin is completely dissolved. Add 1 cup cold water and mix well.
Slowly pour this mixture over the cake, making sure that the mixture gets into all the holes.
Cover and chill for 2-4 hours.
In medium bowl, combine 1 box orange gelatin, the pudding mix, milk, and vanilla and beat well.
In small bowl, combine heavy cream and the powdered sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
Fold the cream mixture into the gelatin mixture and spread over cake.
Cover and refrigerate for 4-8 hours before serving.
Note: times posted do not include cooling time.

I havent tried any of those but I felt the same way when I planned my frieds baby shower last summer so I added a little food coloring.

My sister in law mixes pistachio pudding with the cool whip and spreads it on a cake...Yummy!

I made a similar cake using Strawberry Jello/White cake mix and marbeling the two... Yummy

The frosting was made with cool-whip/sour cream and it was really nice and light and not too sweet..very good and easy
