Apples......?!

Question:

Apples......?

What is the best way to keep apples from turning brown after you cut them?? Lemon doesn't really work for me......

Answers:
Anything w/ vitamin C in it, usually citrus fruit juice. You need to apply it the moment you cut it, or, get a bowl full of water, and put a couple "glugs" of lemon juice in it, or squeeze a couple lemons into it, floating the rinds in there, too.

Then as you cut your apples, toss into the water and let sit while you finish c hopping.

Pineapple, orange, lemon, grapefruit, Kool-Aid, and Fruit Fresh all work, also.

I use orange juice...works great and tastes good too....nothing will work indefinately though.

keep them covered with foil or leave in cold water if you are going to cook them.

i have noticed that when i use an apple slicer (pampered chef), they don't seem to brown as quickly. someone told me one time it has to do the with the metal the knife if made of, but i don't know if this is true.

If you're trying to keep your apples from browning and not you're not plannin on cooking with them, you just want to cut them up for later a good thing to do is to take an apple corer and start to core the apple (about 3/4 of the way). Leave the core in and then slice the apple about 3/4 way to the base of the apple. Then tightly wrap the apple and save it for later, because you're not taking anything away from the apple and you're still keeping it air tight by wrapping it your apple shouldn't brown.
