Question:

What is the best methods for baked potatoes?

is there any prep other than washing them? what temp and duration is best for baking them? waht about adding seasonings?

Answers:
Please don't wrap them in foil. That isn't really a baked potato, more like a steamed one because the foil keeps in the steam the potato gives off during cooking. The skin doesn't get crispy that way, either. Just wash them, poke them with holes, put it in the oven and bake them at 350 for 45 min to an hour. You can poke them with a fork during the cooking process to judge if they are tender yet. Once done, you have a variety of things you can top them with - butter, sour cream, chives, cheese, bacon, broccoli, meat, the list is endless. Good luck!

sure y not

The best temp to cook them at is about 400. I like to wrap them in tinfoil with butter so that they don't dry out.

Just wash the good and make sure all the dirt and things are off. Wrap them in foil and stick in the oven at 350 - 375 degrees for about 1 hr.

I love baked potatoes! I put butter, sour cream, cheese, bacon bits, salt, pepper and chives on mine!! Yummo!

check martha stewarts site she had a potato lesson

she used a metal skewer inserted to cook faster too

enjoy

Wrap them in tin foil, stick those babies in the oven. Set temp at maybe 250-3, depending.
Take them out you'll know if they are done, and then just add what you want.
Butter,
chives
seasonings,
gravy
salt and pepper
chili
sour cream

The old fashioned way is the best way

After i wash them I put them on foil and poke holes in them, rub them with oil, put some garlic and lemon pepper wrap the foil around the potatoe and bake at 400 for 60 minutes (more or less depending on size) But the oil makes them taste GREAT! Not the healthiest though lol

Wash really good and dry them off. Poke holes all over them with the tines of a fork to release the steam as they are cooking.
Bake at 400 for about 45 min-1 hr. The skins wil be nice and crispy and the inside will be fluffy.
If you have the time, bake them at a lower temp, 350 for longer. This allows the sugar to develop in the potato.

Wash them.
Poke them with a fork
Put olive oil on the outside and then on a cooke sheet.
Place in a 400 degree oven for 60 minutes.
Season to taste after they cook.

As others have said, wash them really good. Wrap them in foil and poke them with a fork.

However, I found the best way to cook them is on a charcoal grill. Give them a good 45 minutes cooking time.

Another method which is good, believe it or not, is in the microwave, without the foil of course. Just wrap them in a damp paper towel, and nuke them for about 5 minutes (depends on the size, just keep checking on them with a fork for doneness.)

Serve with lots of butter, sour cream, and chives!!

Thanks, now I'm hungry!! LOL

Depends on potatoes....my favorite recipe is: Wash them, cut them in little pieces, put them in a bowl with water and cook in microwave for 20 min. then chop parsley, two table spoon of butter mix with salt,paprika...

My favorite way to cook them is in my toaster/convection oven set on convection. Bake at 375 for 60-75 min. No foil!! Just wash them , poke them and bake them. For some reason the flesh is creamier than in the regular oven. I also like to do them on the grill with indirect heat. Again, no foil. The crispy skin is the best part.

Twice baked potatoes are a favorite around my house. Bake the potatoes for an hour, let them cool off for a while then mash the flesh with salt and pepper, butter, milk, sour cream and whatever else you like. I like sharp cheddar. Then refill the skins and top with a little more cheese. reheat in the oven for about 20 minutes.
