Grilling a Pizza on a charcoal grill?
My parents always cook pizzas on bonfires..they're always so yummy. I want to try to cook one on our charcoal grill. My Dad told me to set the coals up around the edges inside the grill instead of in the middle. I'm wondering if anyone has ever done this before? How long should it take to cook? i'm hungry!

Never done it, but when it was done on the food channel it took about 20 minutes with a home made crust.
To cook Pizza on the Grill:
The first time you slide a circle of dough onto a grill rack, you realize this technique really is going to work. We found that a covered grill with a large surface area is best because it allows you to crisp one side of the crust over hot coals, then flip the crust over onto indirect heat to warm the toppings and melt any cheese.
Step 1. To cook pizzas on a charcoal grill, build a medium-hot fire in one half of the grill (two bricks placed end-to-end work well as a divider). For a gas grill with two burners, preheat one burner on high, leaving the other unlit. For a single-burner gas grill, preheat on high, and lower the flame to cook the second side of the pizzas.
Step 2. Roll out the pizza dough into 4 circles and place on a floured board. Bring the dough and chosen toppings to grillside.
Step 3. Place 2 of the dough circles on the hot side of the grill. Within 1 minute the dough will puff slightly, and the underside will firm up and be striped with grill marks. Immediately use tongs to flip the crusts over and onto the cooler side of the grill.
Step 4. Spread half of the toppings on the two crusts. Cover the grill and cook, rotating the pizzas once or twice, until toppings are heated through, about 5 minutes.
Step 5. Remove the pizzas from the grill. Repeat with the remaining dough and toppings.
I guess it will take about 15 minutes, but it will depend on how hot the coals are. I would place it on foil as any cheese drips could cause flare ups.
If you covered it, the cooking would be faster.
Cooking a pizza on a B.B.Q. is real easy, especially in a Weber B.B.Q. You can even cheat a take and bake pizza and make it even better by throwing it over charcoal. Here's how I do it and it works for any pizza. I wish we could post pictures cause I have a pic of a pizza I bbq ed in a contest and won.
Fill a charcoal chimney with enough charcoal briquettes to make a ring around the outside rim of the charcoal grate in the bottom of the Weber. (about 40 to 50) When lit and burning well arange burning briquettes in a single circle around the charcoal grate. Spray the food grate with pam or vegetable oil and place over briquettes. Place pizza directly onto the food grate with nothing under the crust. Pizza should be centered on the cooking grate. Cover the bbq with the lid and cook for 15 to 20 minutes depending on the thickness of the crust. A thin cracker type crust will cook in about 10 to 12 minutes. With hot pads remove the cooking grate with the pizza on it and slide the pizza onto a large cutting board or the cardboard the take n bake pizza came on. Slice and serve. bbq ed pizza tastes so great because of the wood fire under it. Just like the traditional wood fired pizza ovens in some restaurants. Good luck to you and don't be afraid to practice and experiment!
