I have always wanted to try them & b/c of yourt entry today I am going to make them this week. Thanks so much for the push to explore & try some thing a bit different. Have a super day!! :o)

Yes, I have, years ago. They were Ok but I found them quite sweet. Homemade ones are doubtless better - these were from a supermarket, in a large tray.

I have tried plain ones and mint ones - that is, the bottom is always the cookie crust, the middle was either plain custard or minty, and chocolate is on top. Though usually I love anything chocolate mint, I did not care for these. Again, possibly the commercial, bulk-made nature of them.

I am sure that Nanaimo bars are much better out in BC, where they probably come from originally!

I am a former chef and worked in Vancouver back in the 1980"s, I also worked in the U.S and in Jamaica, I made them along with Butter tarts and you would think I invented the moon.

I also made Quebeciose Sugar Pie a couple of times, it is similar the the American's Shofly pie, we are blessed like the french and some other countrys to have a dish or dessert that only a Canadian can appreciate.
